Come and talk to me if you had a dreadful sleeper who was 'cured' by an Amby. Please. I'm a desperate woman.

I know that lots of you prob had an Amby from day 1, and love it but have no comparison.

I am particularly interested to hear from those who had appalling sleepers and turned to the Amby in desperation for a half-decent night's sleep. What happened - did your dc start sleeping better right away, or did it make no difference?

They are so expensive that I don't want to waste all that money, but right now I'd pay £150 for one good night!

(ds 7 weeks and won't sleep if put down at night, even if still in bed with me)

My sister bought me an Amby for DD3 as she was a nightmare!! She was about 8 weeks when she went into it and it was fantastic, she settled very fast an stayed in it until she was about 10 months. Look on ebay as you can get them cheaper sometimes. DD4 had collic badly and it was great with her so I'm very pro-Amby although apparently it hasn't suited everyone...hope this helps

Thanks mrsd - that's exactly the sort of thing I need to hear.

I bought an Amby in desperation when my appalling sleeper was about 8 weeks old. It would be wrong to say that its arrival heralded a transformation from appalling sleeper to star sleeper but it was good enough for me to start thinking of life in terms of Before Amby and After Amby. Before Amby I couldn't put him down day or night (and that included attempts at co-sleeping). After Amby I could (as long as he was asleep first; the self-settling took a lot longer, of course) and I started getting the odd couple of hours sleep at night. Doesn't sound like much but, honestly, it was wonderful. The first night in his Amby he actually slept from 9.30 til about 4, although, in the interests of accuracy, I have to say that he'd been for his first cranial osteopathy appt that day. Also, it was then months and months before he slept for that sort of period again. But, in my case it was money well spent - and if I ever have another DC it will be the Amby from day 1.

Right then. It seems the question now is whether I should order one and then tell dh, or ask dh first. Decisions decisions ...

OK OK I may be completely daft, but what is an amby? My 4 month old boy is a very bad sleeper too, so anything that has to do with improving sleep interests me

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/12/2008 13:29

this maria.

thanks Cantsleep. Looks great! wonder if I should order one ? (I'm a bit of a shopaholic, couple that with lack of sleep, and I'm surprised I haven't ALREADY bought it!!)

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/12/2008 14:23

I've just ordered one with next day delivery.

Can you tell us if it works CantSleep?

I am pg with no 2 and DS was a horrible nightmare when it came to sleep. Drove me literally insane. I am terrified that this one will be as bad.

Want to hear that there are solutions!

I love the Amby. I had ds1 and ds2 in it from day one. However, ds3 is a terrible sleeper. We tried him in it as soon as he came home from hospital (he was in SCBU for a week) and he would not sleep in it. The only place he will sleep is with me in bed. I am only telling you this so you don't put all your hopes on it. I do love the Amby, but some babies like my ds3 do not.

EachPeachPearMum · 03/12/2008 14:58

CSWS- if it doesn't work for you... I will buy it off you and try from birth with DS.
But really, truly, I hope it does work- even if its just some improvement.

monthlymayhem · 04/12/2008 18:32

Don't want to put a dampener on your optimism, but my LO (8.5mths) has been in his Amby since birth. He has always gone down to sleep at bedtime fairly easily in it but just won't stay asleep We're usually up several times a night...

So I'm afraid it's not always a miracle cure, but it can't hurt to try! Good luck!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/12/2008 08:28

How do you actually get them at an elevated angle in it? We tried putting his head right at the top, and his feet close to the bottom, but he didn't look angled up either way.

When LO was younger we put a little heat sack at the bottom end to weigh it down, but now he's much bigger we don't incase he reaches for it and smothers himself..

Sariska · 05/12/2008 19:09

I found that positioning my DS so his belly button was directly under the spring got the best elevation for him. (Or getting my DH to retie the whole thing....)

moocowme · 06/12/2008 19:47

i can only say it definately helped me sleep better. i had it right next to my bed and whenever DS looked like stiring i would reach over and give it a bit of a bounce. i was very good at doing this while still half asleep. in the summer months i could bounce it with my foot as well.

i do think it helped a great deal with teaching Ds to self settle without a bottle. I also found it good to get DS to sleep longer than 40 mins as I could just bounce it again when he stired and he kept on sleeping.
