Keeping a toddler under wraps.....

Wise mumsnetters......

At the mo we still have crying fits when put to get (lasts all of about 1-2mins) then she is asleep....however when I try to put bedcovers on (have to do this when she is asleep...because as soon as we leave the room she is standing up!) she wakes up.... She hates the covers on her...I've tried in front on the TV having a cuddle to get her to have a cover on to no avail... pushchair but hates it and fights it likewise in the car!

Obviously it is getting colder now so I am worrying about her getting cold, the coldest the nursery has got is about 13degrees....

At the moment she is sleeping in Fleecy baby gro's and a vest, but she is waking at 2:30am every night and around 4am and then 5am....each time I am reassuring her, not picking her up etc... letting her resettle then trying to get a cover on her (sometimes it works)....

Will she get too hot if I put normal PJ's on underneath fleecy PJ's?, I'm worried she is getting too cold and waking? however she wasn't well the other week, so we had her in our bed when she was waking so now trying to establish if it is cold waking her or the habit??? I've left the heating on low a couple of times but she still wakes...

I can quite easily sleep with no covers on, and often end up half out of the covers! We have bought her a quilt set for christmas but I don't think that will make much difference as she hates our quilt if in our bed and fights to get out of it,(I put a blanket on her as she is on top of the covers when on our bed?

What would you do? Keep leaving the heating on low? Or keep trying with the covers ? Give her the pillow and quilt now to see how she gets on with it? I wish babies came with a handling manual!

yeah i would put pj's on under her fleecy babygro

how old is she? if she is over a year she is old enough for pillow and quilt, but as you say, she may hate that too.

think i'd go with layering her up and hoping for the best

DD has a habit of falling asleep on top of her duvet. We put her in a long sleeve vest, long sleeve fleecy pyjamas and a fleecy sleepsuit.

Put socks on her -- you lose most of your body heat through hands, feet and head. DS is the same way and refuses covers, but we have it nice and toasty all night long.

Thanks, I tried the pj's under fleecys sleep suit she woke up sweating last night we manager to get a single layer fleece blanket on her, with the fleecy sleep suit and she didn't wake....so I am hoping for the same again I guess if she wakes those nights I'll leave the heating on

gro bag?

Rumpel · 02/12/2008 21:42

My DD (just tunred 2 ) keeps throwing the covers off and waking up cold. I ended up putting her in an extra super duper long sleeping bag - babygrowbag thingumy - in her bed and pop her duvet over her before I go to bed - she slept like a log last night so fingers x it works!

milkybarsrus · 03/12/2008 11:14

who likes to be cold in bed? why should toddlers? layers are best if they kick covers off.
1.vest
2.pj's
3.fleece sleep suit
4.warm bedding i.e flannel sheets instead of crisp, cold cotton.
took me several broken nights to work out what he kept waking up for, but now he's snug he is a happy bunny!

Gro bag sounds the way forward - she can still stand up and toddle around in them (my DS somehow managed to climb out a cot, down some stairs and walk into a living room in his no problem - still trying to figure out how!!)

butterscotch · 03/12/2008 14:52

Ahh should have stated stopped using grobags about 4months ago as she has an all mighty tantrum trying to get her in one, and crys until she makes herself sick, if I manage to get her in it

Try a vest, long sleeved top and cosy socks under the fleece babygro. I had (still have one) two cover haters. I vary the combos depending on the child/weather.

If you put a duvet underneath her it also helps keep them warm.
