Crib sleeping...what do I need in the way of sheets/blankets etc

This will seem like a particularly daft question to all mothers...but I'm unsure so going to ask anyway!

I'm planning on buying the Anna gliding crib from John Lewis: www.johnlewis.com/230191454/Product.aspx?source=14798

I have been looking around at all the bedding etc and wonder what I actually need to buy, and how I should best make up the bed for baby. Do I just put the fitted sheet on mattress and then baby down? Or does it need some sort of waterprrof pretector first? And should there be blankets and things under baby, or is this risky for overheating?

And can you use grobags in a crib? or will I have to go down the swaddling/ sheets and blankets route...in which case, any recommendations?

Many thanks from the uninitiated!

most matresses you buy for cots have a waterproof layer so no waterproof sheets are needed. get some fitted bottom sheets 2or 3 is prob best just in case of accidents. grobags are great but check as they cannot be used for newborns. I used to put fitted sheet onto matress, then baby and flat sheet ontop, make sure you tuck sheet in nice and tight so they feel secure.I used to put a fresh muslin over the top half of the bottom sheet, It catches all the dribble/sick and means bottom sheet lasts a bit longer. Then blanket goes ontop of flat sheet, add extra blanket for cold nights. now for quantities! 2 or 3 fitted sheets is fine, 2flat sheets and 2 or 3blankets.
I hope this helps.

Klover - huge help! Thank you so much! will add them to my shopping list. Liking the dribble-catching muslin suggestion!

I did use a grobag in the crib and you can use them from newborn if your lo is over 7lbs (the 'proper' grobag ones though - some makes are from 10lbs). I used a swaddle blanket for a couple of weeks and then moved to the grobag so ds used the grobag from quite early and was in his crib till he was about 5 months old. I didnt buy many blankets at all as I had some from dd but I only used them in the couple of weeks before using the grobag as you dont need extra blankets with the sleeping bags. I just needed the fitted sheets which went straight over the crib mattress which was pvc covered so waterproof anyway.
