Am I keeping 6 week baby awake too long?

I notice that most people start putting their babies down at about 7 or 8pm by about 6 weeks but I haven't dared as I have found he only has a couple of three hour sleep stints in him and I don't want him to start one until I'm ready to go to bed at about 10pm. But recently I've been noticing how crabby he is between about 8pm and 10pm. Only breastfeeding pretty much constantly keeps him happy. Do you think this could be because he's tired and I should put him in his moses basket. And then, will he really sleep from this early until the next morning (waking for feeds obviously)
Thanks in advance

I'd try putting him down to sleep earlier for a few nights and see what happens.

When your baby is small and especially if it's your first baby then everything is trial and error to begin with. You have to get used to each other and also get used to him as he changes so quickly and the best way to do it is to go with your instincts.

If he really doesn't sleep all through the night (except for feeds) if you put him to bed earlier then you can rethink what to do but no-one else can tell you whether he will or won't without knowing your baby as well as you do.

the only way to tell is try and see

but for the record lots of babies are grumpy in the evenings just because they're babies - good reassuring article on Kellymom here

feeding constantly in the evening is normal remember - cluster feeding - they're storing up for sleeping longer at night (fingers crossed!)
