sleeping with the window open

Is anyone else unable to sleep unless the window it open? Even if its cold in the room I still want the window open a bit. The only way I can sleep without the window open is if I am absolutely exhausted. It is freezing outside just now - literally and I can't sleep so have opened window and am waiting for room to get sufficiently cold enough for me to sleep. Fellow window-open-sleepers reveal yourselves...

My mum always used to say she likes to sleep with a warm body and a cold head. I'm the same really, but I don't got so far as opening the window, but then we live in a draughty victorian house, as soon as the heating goes off the temperature plummets (not so good for the carbon footprint ) Plus, it's pretty noisy where we are, planes start going over from about 4.30am (despite the fact they're not supposed to fly over London before 5.30am) so in the summer we always wake up really early if the windows are open.

It's really good for you to have an open window, because part of a human excretion is to breathe out toxins. If your window is closed, you spend all night breathing them back in. Is it any wonder you feel better in the morning if you sleep with an open window?

HeadFairy · 17/11/2008 04:51

Anorak... do you really live in Bermuda or am I terribly naive? If you do then I'm v . However... here in London there are waaaaay more toxins outside than in (spend a day in central London, then blow your nose, you'll see what I mean), plus it's perishing cold at night. I'm still keeping my windows shut

HeadFairy · 17/11/2008 04:54

oooh just looked at your pics anorak. You DO live in Bermuda... I'm even more !! It's freezing here tonight (am on nights so had to pop out to the cashpoint). I'm picturing a lovely airy bedroom, overlooking the see, with big floor to ceiling windows open, floaty curtains wafting about and moonlight flooding in. Mmmm I feel warmer already

anorak · 17/11/2008 22:41

Yup.

I really do

But we have to close the windows to keep cool a lot of the time. And to stay dry - it's so humid in Bermuda and we run dehumidifiers in the house to stop our clothes and furniture going mouldy.

oh yeah, another one here , married to a man who gets really grumpy and miserable when he is cold, and when it is noisy. we live on a main road, so window closed a lot of the time
he was away for the weekend, so slept with window open and blinds open too (like a bit of light, he likes dark)

princessmel · 17/11/2008 22:50

I have it open if it is in the least bit hot. Not in this weather though.

itsMYmummy · 17/11/2008 22:52

My bedroom has to be PITCH black and freezing!

scaredoflove · 17/11/2008 22:56

window always open, can't stand feeling stuffy

Tried with it shut when we had the last cold spell but it was horrible. I think because I sleep with door shut too, I need the air. Really noticed a stuffy smell next morning and my room usually smells lovely

I never turn my radiators on either, hate being hot, sleep with feet out of covers aswell most nights

Twims · 17/11/2008 22:58

Can't you get Bells Palsy from open windows whilst sleeping?

Rowlers · 17/11/2008 23:02

Open.
And hate hot bedrooms. Got to be cool, fresh air, even in dead of Winter.
Hot water bottle keeps me cosy in bed.
Bells Palsy? Eh? From open windows? Don't get it.

whoingodsnamewasi · 17/11/2008 23:05

My bedroom window is never shut, and the radiator never on, a 15tog duck feather and down duvet keeps me warm.

MarmadukeScarlet · 17/11/2008 23:07

Bells palsy is a neurological disorder surely?

Window open here too, well actually the damn old window are so draughty it is hardly nec! I get stuffy sinus ishoos if I have it closed.

SparklyGothKat · 17/11/2008 23:08

I have to have the window open too. DH hates it, as he gets cold, but I can't sleep with it closed

giraffescantdancethetango · 18/11/2008 18:53

Jnyhnz · 26/12/2017 05:05
