Hamocks -pros and cons?

My 3 week old adores slings (using various soft types where he lies in cradle hold). He loathes and detests moses baskets, bedside cot, our bed and even lying on top of me in bed. Being put in the sling calms and soothes him better than breastfeeding! Strange baby.

Anyway, I wondered whether those baby hammock things you can get were any good - might feel similar to his slings, so I might be able to actually sleep sometimes. Anyone used one? Are they safe in terms of not obscuring their breathing (sling isn't for such long periods and I'm always awake)? Is it bad for their backs? Any research on cot death risk? Can you then transition them to sleeping flat (not that I care much about long term issues at the moment, just want some sleep)

Any experiences or info very welcome, thanks

Hi used an Amby for two of my children and can only say i wish I'd had it for all four! Used to put baby in a gro-bag and blanket(my house is cold!) and bounced them to sleep, was brilliant for my 4th who had bad collic, don't know much about research on cot death, sorry. The girls were in it from birth to 6-8months.Brilliant!

We used the moffii Oberon from about 3wks to 6-7 months when LO was able to turn over by himself. He slept like a dream in it, haven't had the same success in the cot due to teething/colds etc since then, but it only took a couple of nights to transition him into the new bed.
Wish they made them to support older/longer babies! LO always slept on his side in it rather than his back, so I don't think a back-sleeper would have quite the same ability to flip onto tummy, but my LO was in danger of suffocating himself due to inability to flip back onto side if he rolled onto front
