Toddler refuses to be covered in his cot

He's 15 months and even when he's really drowsy he kicks and cries if he's covered with even a light blanket. Which isn't a big deal most of the time - we just nip in and cover him after ten minutes when he's asleep.

Except he wakes in the night lots and often won't settle in bed with us, so he gets put in his cot and we have to sit there bleary and cold until he's asleep before covering him. Otherwise he wakes up cold. He hates grobags and fleecy sleepsuits aren't ideal as he's still cosleeping for some of every night and gets really hot. I prefer not to be dressing/undressing him in the night because this seems to signal playtime ...

Can anyone shed any light on this bizarre aversion to blankets? Or even just say the magic words "It's a phase ..."

My DS does it too. He's 3, sorry. I find he manages with long trousers and long sleeved pyjama top. And the heating comes on pretty early in our house.

mine are both like that. dd1 is nearly 4 and still kicks the covers off.

no matter what, they will end up kicking off the covers int he middle of the night. i actually had a thought that it is a good thing - their body temprature is right and they feel comfortable without the security of a blanket? anyways, i don't fuss and they sleep however they like...

DD is still like that and she's 5.5. I used to use fleecy sleepsuits and she slept ... well, like a baby.
