DD (3.6 yrs) sleeps usually 7pm-7/8/9am without any issues.

She stopped naps about 2 months ago which was roughly when she started at pre school.
She only goes 2 days a week and we find the following days she is needing a nap in the afternoon and the night after preschool she is also tired. We just put it down to the fact she has done lots and is tired.

BUT we are also finding that some days like today (weekend) she is also tired and asking for bed at night and having a nap...
We do tend to do active things during the day which I guess tires her out (soft play, shopping, walking etc)

Should we be concerned or is she just a typical toddler getting into a sleeping/waking routine iykiwm...

Just worried if anything medical ...?

TIA

DS is a bit younger (2.5), but he's recently dropped his nap as well and we have similar things happening. If he naps in the day then he doesn't go to bed at night, but if he doesn't then he gets very tired.

We've put it down to getting used to being up all day, it's quite a long stretch when they're used to a sleep in the middle of the day. We also have quiet time after lunch when he watches a DVD or has a book, which means he rests but doesn't sleep which seems to help.

He will just lie on the floor sometimes and say he's tired, but I think that's all part of learning to express how they're feeling as well.

They have to learn to pace themselves when they drop the nap, so I wouldn't be too worried unless she's showing other signs of illness like not eating for example.

Thanks mydwtd.

Well it can vary..yesterday she was mostly playing around the home and watching tv etc and didn't nap BUT come 5pm she was begging for bed iykiwm...We managed to get to 6.30pm when both dd and ds went to bed...

Must admit its not every day she claims to be tired and when she is we do ask her is she tired due to playing lots or is she ill...just says she is tired. She also wakes claiming to be tired..

Hmm.....not eating...she will eat BUT is a nightmare at mealtimes and seems to eat less and less...BUT she will happily eat inbetween which we are trying to stop BUT its a vicious circle.won't eat as not hungry so snacks then won't eat blah de dah...

I guess typical toddler behaviour..?

Sounds like mine who is 3.10. He looks like a zombie a lot of the time, but is also suffering vivid dreams and nightmares at the moment, so obviously not sleeping that well at night which presumably has something to do with it.

DS says he's tired when he wakes up sometimes as well - but he soon perks up when he has his breakfast.

Not sure what to advise really - if deep down you feel there's something wrong, then it won't do any harm to take her to the GP for a onceover. But it does sound similar to DS, and my gut feeling is that he's fine.

hope this helps a bit

will keep an eye to her over next few days and she how she goes.
Thanks x
