21m dd refusing to got to bed until late - time for a move to big girl's bed?

She's been great at going down up until recently, but for the last couple of weeks I'll take her up to her cot, settle her, all will be calm for about 10 minutes then suddenly she flips and starts crying. She shares a room with ds (4.7) so I can't really do the controlled crying - have tried it with her before and she just doesn't give in anyway, just makes herself puke.

So, she'll come back downstairs and faff about for a while, before eventually crashing out on the sofa by about 10pm. She's sleeping in the cot for the rest of the night but I have heard her bashing around in it and waking at various times through the night, but she usually self settles.

She is quite tall for her age, but so was ds and he was in his cot until he was nearly 3!

Should I move her to a single bed? Toddler bed? dc3 is due in 9 weeks and I'm shattered - any advice appreciated.

I suspect that the only result of putting her in a bed would be that she can come downstairs herself!

keep her in the cot! As long as she can't climb out of it.

She's being like a 2 year old - just a bit early. You are heading into "do it my way or I'll scream" territory. Putting her in a bed will just mean she roams the house yelling rather than sits in the cot yelling!

yep, that's what I suspect - I do feel that I give in to her more easily than I ever did with ds...

when I moved ds into a bed he never got out of it on his own, lways waited until I went to get him even if he was crying.

so, any suggestion as to how to get her to sleep at a reasonable time, and without having her fall asleep on the sofa?

She still naps (usually) for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours from about 11am-ish. Please don't tell me it's time to drop the nap! On the days that she doesn't nap she'll go to bed easily that night at about 7.30pm but tends to wake up after a couple of hours, as if that's been her 'nap'!
