So what do you do about the cold and night?

My DD (18 weeks) is in a long sleeve bodysuit, terry towelling or velour babygrow and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag, but I think she's still not cosy enough... Unfortunately we don't have a thermostat so I don't want to risk having the heating come on during the night... What do you do?

I meant "cold AT night"

Trying to think back...

Vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag thing should be fine

If she's cold, she'll wake up and you can put a blanket over her

What about those thick fluffy zip up sleepsuits... What are they for? Are they safe? We got sent one by some relatives but I just don't know if she could wear that with a sleeping bag?

she should be ok,

that's quite a fair bit tbh, as nnb says - if she's cold she'll wake up.

at this age the fluffy sleep suits I feel are for 'over coat' type things- ie dressing gowns.

DS has them but he doesn't have a vest on with them and his duvet.

he's a bit older but I personally wouldn't put a vest, fleecy sleepsuit & sleeping bag on your DC.

If you do think she's cold thou maybe just add a blanket when you go into bed? if it's only as her hands are cold then add some little mittens

Fluffy zip up thing - more for when out of bed, as Spndex says

Wouldn't use one for IN bed

Becky77 · 19/10/2008 10:32

Yeah that's what I thought... Not really needed are they as when she's up I can just whack the heating on.

I cant put mittens on her as she sucks her fingers... so I think I'll have to resort to the blanket over when I go to bed. Hopefully that'll also help with her wriggling herself into a corner

Put free standing heater in her room on low temperature

Becky77 · 19/10/2008 10:40

Can you recommend any cheap to run ones Beeny?

Hey Becky

Hows the move to cot going?

Second the blanket. Would not put her in fleece or velour personally, just because I always think of man-made fibres as sweaty/unbreathable and worry about overheating (but not sure if its true).

But if using a blanked, please be sure she is feet to toe or whatever its called, when their feet are at the end of the bed, then she can't snuggle down too far under the covers (just in case).

Our heating goes off at night too, and it goes down to about 17C. Last winter I put DS in a shortsleeved body suit, and a cotton sleep suit, then a 3tog bag from Tescos! Slightly warmer than the usual 2.5togs and dead cheap too. Can thoroughly recommend them.

Now of course DS is bigger so I have pyjamas - oooooh, cuteness!!
