Do you use a night light?

We have occasional problems with night wakings or settling to sleep when he DS (18 months) seems to be afraid of the dark, so I am considering using a night light. We have one of those little dog lights that change colour but I think the fact that it changes the colour is a little too distracting sometimes. So if you use one, which one is it and is it on when your DC falls asleep or all night?

We have dimmer switches in both the dcs' bedrooms and take night lights with us when we go on holiday - just the plug-in ones, nothing fancy. We've had them so long that I can't remember where they came from - sorry.

We used to use a plug in night light for practical reasons. If I had to go in there in the middle of the night, it was pitch and I couldn't see what I was doing. It was just enough light to allow your eyes to adjust and see basic outlines.

I can imagine why DS would have preferred it to pitch black.

I have one of these: www.johnlewis.com/230169566/Product.aspx it's fab.

I brought this so I could see to breatfeed dd.

It's a really nice restful light, and very eco, only 50p a year to run, even if you never turn it off! and no bulb.

Bough t these for my DS, one stays plugged in and the other is used if we stay away.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Found out in the meantime that what DS needs is the door left open and the light in the hallway on - for some reason the nightlight in the room upsets him.
