stranded in cot...!

DS (11 months) has learnt to sit up in his cot if he wakes in the night (even though he's in a sleeping-bag). He hasn't figured out how to lie back down, gets really upset and can't re-settle. Anyone else had similar experience? either with sitting or standing? Any tips on how to handle it, I'd be really grateful :-) Getting desperate for a nights sleep!! Thanks so much

it is milestone waking

when babies learn to do something they want to do it all the time, whether it is 2 am or 2 pm

just lay him bck down wehn he does it

he will be able, in time, to figure out how to do it himself

AAAawwww - I remember DS wakening up in his sleeping bag and standing up and I'd go through and he would be like a wee triangle with a head, holding onto the bars. So cute!

my DD (10 months) did this for a while with naps (not at night) - where she would stand in her cot without being able to lie back down again. i used to just leave her, and eventually she figured out what to do (following advice from people on here - i posted a thread about it)

i guess it's different at night - can you leave him for a bit and see if he does manage to resettle?

try teaching him, during daytime play how to sit down from standing. Then he will know he can do it so wont need you to help at night.

Thanks so much for all your help. It's definitely milestone waking. Sadly he's now learnt to stand in his cot - but bursts into tears when he gets there. It's heartbreaking. I can't leave him to just stand and cry. If I go in to lie him back down, he's back up again before I've even left the room (crying all the time). Any thoughts...?
