Am I making a rod for my own back?

ds is 17 months, since 6 months has been in a good routine for bedtime, goes into his cot awake, 6 nights out of 7 will go to sleep happily, quietly and quickly.

last 2 weeks he has taken a violent dislike to going into his cot, screams, cries, vomits if left to scream. HOWEVER he will go to sleep happily, quietly and quickly if I leave him on the double bed in his room. When he's been asleep for 30 mins I move him to his cot, he doesn't stir and is happy until morning.

But am wondering if this is the right thing to do? I can't think of any particular problem as he doesn't move on the bed, is surrounded by pillows, is in grobag and it's not a high bed so if he did fall off it would be a shock but wouldn't hurt him, much. Do I just accept that this is now the way to get him to bed or am I overlooking some massive issue that is going to arise next week when I think "ffs why didn't I take on the battle of the cot at the time?"

if it works for you and he isn't screaming, does it really matter? in a few months he will be ready for a bed anyway.

perhaps get a bed rail for the bed so he can't fall out and move to the bed permanently - I know he's small but it could work

Might be a good time for a little toddler bed, we just bought one for our 18mo LO and she loves it

Time to graduate from the cot.
