My 3rd baby (8 weeks)has been quite happy sleeping on her side in a moses basket . With my 1st I spent 3 months with her sleeping on me every night and could only get her to sleep in the cot on her front. I then bought an angel monitor with a sensor pad cos I was so worried about current advice etc. My mum reassured me a little saying all 4 of her babies slept on their fronts, ANYWAY.....My no 2 also slept on his front from around 12 weeks, his neck was strong and I felt comfortable with my decision. I just wondered if anyone else has babies that sleep on their fronts or am I being irresponsible? It seems a bit of a taboo topic.......

I personally wouldnt. The rate of SIDS has gonw down a great deal since this was brought in. I would be too scared to risk it but that is just my opinion.

my 2 both slept on their fronts from quite small - they just slept so much better than on their backs.

current advice is all against it, as you know, but you should do what you feel comfortable with. it worked for us and after teh first week or so of worrying we never looked back.#

i suspect that more people do it than let on!

DD1 was fine on her back. But from quite early on it became clear that DD2 was not going to sleep on her back or side. She just screamed and screamed, but when put on her front went to sleep instantly. After a few sleepless weeks, I caved in and at 22 weeks she now still sleeps on her front.

We also have a breathing monitor, and she is still in with us. She is very strong and can roll over, so I'm feeling less stressed about it now than I was.

I'm afraid the choice between zero sleep and some sleep over-rode the SIDS risk for me. We are low risk in every other respect.
