How can I get my 2 yo to sleep in her bed and not by the door?!

She has been in her bed for a month? Maybe a bit less.

She loves her bed, but gets out of it lots. We put her back, she gets up, plays with bears or reads a book, then goes to sleep. We go in to check on her to find she is asleep by the door on the floor, although sometimes right next to her bed like she fell asleep before she could get back in it!

This evening, I heard a noise thought it was her awake, and it was her turning in her sleep, on the floor. Again! I have put her in her bed again, and she will now sleep in it for the rest of the night no problem.

I think she gets up because she can and then gets tired and falls asleep before she realises she is tired and that she should go back into her bed.

She is getting very tired, as she also wakes up earlier now too. I would say her actual sleep in 9pm to 6:30am, not enough.

Any ideas on how to keep her in her bed in the first place? How can we teach her to return to her bed on her own before falling asleep?

LOL I think you are just going to have to ride it out and carry on putting her back in her bed when you go to bed until she grows out of it!!

I'm stumped, at least she's happy!

kafka at your DD falling asleep at the table!

DD only stays in her room because she cant reach the handle to open the door. And when she can, I am going to turn it upside down so she wont be able to open it even then!!

If she could read it, she would open it .

greenmonkies, yes at least I am not dealing with a crying toddler. Which I was just before she learnt to climb out of her cot, she would cry and shout and scream until she fell asleep.

Now she chats and plays! So I guess I am lucky. Just worry about the loss of sleep she is getting as she falls asleep later and is getting up earlier.

twas during the day, she has to have stairgate on at night otherwise she would dance around the house all night

I was at the end of my tether before someone suggested a stairgate as she WOULD NOT stay in her bedroom or in her bed, I thought my life as I knew it had come to end but the stairgate has sorted it, I don't mind where she sleeps, cupboard, bed, floor, as long as she stays in her room and does not decide to climb the gate

I'd vote for get rid of the bed for a bit and put the mattress on the floor nearer the door!

Kafka - you are probably right. I am not even going in to check where she is!!! I am going to sleep myself!

Thanks for suggestions everyone!

DD2 is moving into a bed in DD1's bedroom next week.

Bet you London to a brick she's not going to stay in that bed and piss off DD1, who likes her sleep.

PavlovtheCat · 21/08/2008 22:33

LOL expat - that will be more entertaining than my house!

of course, DD1 thinks it's going to be so much fun to have DD2 rooming with her.

we'll see how long that lasts!

I'd vote for the spare duvet on the floor, then ignore her as much as possible. Snuggle her into bed and say goodnight. Pop her back into bed when you go up. If she wanders around a bit and falls asleep on the floor, it's not a major problem. She's enjoying being in her room and will eventually work out that bed is comfier!

Thought: have you got one of those bed guards up, which stop them falling out of bed? My highly intelligent boys never managed to work out that they could climb out around theirs!

There is now a picture on my profile of dd1 asleep in a wardrobe. She also used to go to sleep under her cot before we put her in a bed.

dd1 can still fall asleep anywhere, even mid sentence.
