dd is 4 months old and has been co-cleeping since 2 weeks. Have been using NCSS with varying degrees of sucess to get her to sleep in cot for last 10 days, but is it sometimes very difficult. She is bf till almost asleep and then I put her in cot at which point she either stirs slightly and goes to sleep, often with assistance of hairdryer but if she wakes up that's it, we have to start again. Also sometimes rock her to sleep. I am just wondering, at this age, would I be better getting her soundly to sleep and then putting her in???

i think you would be better long term if you can teach her to get herself to sleep. I know it sounds impossible but I did the same with ds as you are doing and he was 8 months before we could stand rocking/cuddling etc him to sleep no more and tried the baby whisperer pick up put down. It only took one night to "cure" him.
Dd is 10 weeks old and I've deliberately woken her up after her bf (I change her nappy) so that she goes into bed awake and gets herself off to sleep.
I would heartily recommend you try pick up put down, teach her to get herself to sleep. There is some crying involved but you never leave their side so it didn't feel unkind or distressing when I did it.

Yeah, I've got the baby whisperer and i saw that is said you can do PUPD after 4 months. I wonder though if she is still to young to learn these things? How many hours did you have to do it that night before he went to sleep, and if they start to cry as soon as you put them into the cot do you just pick up again straight away each time?

I think she'll get it much quicker than if you leave it longer like we did. The first night was awful and you have to be prepared to not give up however long it takes, otherwise you will have put yourself and her through a grim night for nothing iyswim.
I had to pick him upand put him down constantly (I mean constantly as he cried the second I put him down and so Ihad to pick him straight up again) for 1 1/2 hours. Next waking it took 45 mins and for his nap the next day 20 mins. Following night he went to sleep unassisted without crying. We did stay in his room for a good few months as he got himself off to sleep though, but I just used to sit and read.
It's great to not have to rock, it means someone else can put them to bed and they wake less in the night.
I think it's worth giving it a go

Thanks! I think you are right, I'll wait until she is at least 6 moths to try it and keep going with the NCSS just now.
