I did it when both of mine went into a proper bed, so around 2 years 3 months give or take. Dd1 had a full-size single so I used a flattened pillow for her, dd2 is in a toddler bed and I got a pillow and duvet set from ikea (the cot-bed ones) and the pillow is really flat and not very big.

Dd1 is nearly 6 now and has a puffier pillow, but that was only quite recent (nosebleeds had made a bit of a mess of her old pillow).

Got dd age 2.5 a pillow from Mothercare but I think it's too fat so she's not used it yet. Where can I get a thin one with a hypo-allergenic cover from?

my dc have asthma so were given the anti-allergy-and-heaven-knows-what cot pillow at a mere 10mo, because they were fully mobile (walking) and could sit themselves up and so on - though we weighed the whole thing up verrrry carefully and decided that the comfort and sleeping angle seemed to help the asthma.
They only got a 'proper' pillow at, errr, ds1 was 2.4 and ds2 still has his cot pillow at almost 5yo

janeasher, how about a cot pillow [also mothercare and babies r us] very soft and quite flat anti-allergy ones?

DS was about 18months. He sleeps with his head at the foot of his bed and his feet on the pillow, so I'm not 100% sure why I bothered.

I used to prop DD's mattress up with a phone book (underneath it) from when she was a few months old - she had really bad wind and would scream unless the top end of her bed was elevated a bit.

She's had a pillow proper from 18 months - when she came out of the huge grobags.. never had any probs with them... touch wood etc..

When they start using Winnie the Pooh to rest their head on

About 10 months old for my children, but I do think this varies. I know a baby of 15 months who is less physicacally capable than my children were at 8 months - and he's small. I wouldn't give him a pillow, but mine were much more 'toddley' and muscular at this age

dd had one from 1 year. ds had a goi goi pillow from a few weeks old (helps correct/prevent flattening of the head). He has had a pillow ever since although he now has a cot pillow I got from tkmaxx for about £7.

dd never tries to rest her head on anything. she's nrly 2.5. Shall i just not bother with a pillow?
