My DD wont stay asleep.

My DD is pretty good at going to bed and usually goes anytime from 7pm onwards, when ever she starts to get tired. She usually has a bath and breastfeed before bed. She will go down in her cot, and will put herself to sleep in about 5 mins, and doesnt usually cry. This is all great...BUT....

The last few nights, she just won't stay asleep! She is waking every hour or so and in the end, I have ended up bringing her down here some of the time. It is driving me mad and she is miserable when she wakes.

Why is she doing this and what can I do?

Chloe i could have done this post (see postnatal Jan thread) for my rantings.
Will be watching in vain hope of another solution for getting dd to sleep longer than two hours at a time!

Possibly teething?

DD was teething at this age, her first tooth came through at just over 6 months, and she teethed with no sign of the tooth for about 4 weeks beforehand.

It took us quite a while to figure out what was causing her lack of sleep, or rather, going to sleep then waking often.

The reason it seems to effect the night time sleep but does not effect them in the day is that they have time/quietness/calmness for the pain to be more obvious, more time to focus on the pain, so its more apparant to them at night time. So I understand it anyway.

Maybe try rubbing her gums when she next wakes up, and try some good mouth gel, I personally found bonjela to be useless. We used a US brand called Oragel - it worked like a treat! Thats how we knew it was teething, as out of desperation we tried some on her gums and she stopped crying almost instantly! If Bonjela does not work try Anbesol (sp) which is more numbing than bonjela.

Now we know her teething signs, but at 6 months we had no clue at all!

She does get teething pains, on and off, but have given her teething powder (which usually works instantly)but no help. Last night I ended up giving her calpol, out of desperation for some sleep. But she then woken up completly and sat downstairs playing for an hour or 2!

Could be that the teeth are hurting a bit more than before?
DD used to do that...be really really miserable and then once up, playing nicely for a couple of hours, then back to sleep, then awake again couple of hours later, in what seemed to be pain.

Maybe try rubbing her gums a little? Or rub an ice cube? Have you tried using a teething ring, one that can go into the freezer/fridge to keep cold?

I'd best leave then.... only after I've told you DS is 19 months and still does the same and has never slept through.
