2 year old, what time bedtime?

If left to her own devices ds would go to sleep about 8.00pm, wake up about 8.00am, and nap from about 12.30 to about 2.00pm

However we have to get her up about 7.15am, and if we stick to these times, she misses 3/4 hour sleep and is horrible until naptime.

BUT, if we put her to bed at 7.00pm, to make sure she gets enough night time kip she won't go to sleep until 8.00pm.....and then is tired until naptime the next morning. If we make naptime earlier she only sleeps for about 1/2 hour.

She seems to need about 14 hours sleep in 24, but doesn't seem to get it, and then is grizzly all the time.

Any tips from anyone?

my 21 month old has bedtime around 7.15/7.30pm and wakes between 6 and 6.30am. He has a nap at 12.30pm that can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.

Ds 22 months is in bed between 6.30 and 7pm. Sometimes goes straight off sometimes chats to his bears. Wakes between 7.30 and 8.30 Naps around 12.30 for an hour or two.

7pm here for both ds who's 5 (has been 7pm all his life!) and dd who's 22 months

dd2 is 4.5 weeks and does what she likes!

Ds(2) goes to bed at 7, and is asleep about 15 min later. He wakes up anytime between 6 and 7.30, and usually naps for 1-2 hours between 12 and 2

put her to bed 5 mins earlier at a time if you want to adjust it long term

Niecie · 07/07/2008 20:22

How long have you tried the 7pm bedtime for. If you don't do it long enough her sleep won't have time to sort itself out.

Could you try moving bedtime earlier in smaller increment, say 10 minutes a week? So this week make bedtime 7.50, next week 7.40 and so on, until she goes to bed at the time she needs to.

7pm here

I'd put him to bed at 7pm even if he wont sleep till 8pm. Then when he's really tired the next day bring his nap forward an hour as well. Make sure he doesnt sleep longer than usual and he should be ready for bed at 7pm the next night!

2point4kids · 07/07/2008 20:24

Sorry I meant her not him!

7pm for DD (2 years old). She's still awake now (singing Baa baa black sheep and making Dolly dance) though.

DiscoDizzy · 07/07/2008 20:26

7pm here, DD1 goes straight asleep, but DD2 (3) can sit and play for a good hour about 75% of the time, the other 25% she'll go straight to sleep. When she was 2 she would have a nap for only about 30 mins of the day.

fizzbuzz · 07/07/2008 20:35

She's not actually 2 yet, will be next week.

Increments..am liking this idea, but trouble is we put her to bed about 8.30 at weekends as she surfaces about 8.45 am and we get a mini lie in. So bringing it forward bit by bit, would take a whole week , and then back to squre one. She seems to sleep much better at weekends from 8.30-8.30 rathr then 7-7

Can't really pull her nap forward as she only sleeps for about 1/2 hour

She's still awake and singing now, but will be tired tomorrow.

So confused..........
