11 1/2 month old:

what is a rough napping pattern?

i know everyone is different

but at the mo had huge screams for an hour from little one when tried to put to nap -

always has a one - one hour 15 mins nap 10is-11ish every monring after waking up at 7:30ish

afternoons will always nap half hour to an hour if in car/pram

but i can't be out every bloody day (sorry in a foul mood)

so today put him to bed and lo and behold after 20 mins twice of absolutely screaming (i hate it) he is now sort of sleeping so obviously nbeeded it or did he not need it?

how does one know if one is dropping a nap? is lo crying cuz am forcing him to nap or is he crying cuz he doesn't need thus want nap?

really baffled AND CONFUSED AND DEPRESSED NOW

Oh, don't get yourself down. My ds screams when I tried to get him to nap by putting him straight down. He is 11 months now and I only learned what he wanted about 2 months ago. I take him and the dog for a walk when he gets tired (9am and 1pm) and then transfere him to cot when he asleep.

Generally speaking if you nap them too much during the day, if they are unwilling, then they are a nightmare to get off to sleep at bedtime and sleep badly. So if he makes a fuss in the afternoon but still sleeps well at night, he needs the nap.

bumbly all babies are different.

I've had ones that love to sleep and can be relied on to do so day and night.

My current 'baby' @14 months old very occasionally has ONE sleep during the day. If he falls asleep in the car for say 10 mins I know that that is it for the whole day.

I say be glad you have the security of one nap session and count your blessings if you happen to get 2!!

has never really slept well at night with or without naps

yesterday didn't make him nap in afternoon and he had terirble night (up loads of times crying) so today put him to nap in afternoon

I found this phase really hard because she seemed ot be dropping her pm nap which was alwyas hit and miss anyway and then really awful and struggling in evenings, it has since worked itself to a much longer midday nap but it was nothing i did in particular but i think it will get better - what is he like at bedtime?

do you havea sling? I often found a quick catnap in the sling in the afternoon while i was doing something in the house helped get to bedtime without a total meltdown between 5-6pm

Hi, no words of wisdom I'm afraid but I am in the same boat with my 11mo at the moment. He used to regularly take 1 and half hours morning and afternoon but in the past 3 weeks or so has been fighting naps and it's been a nightmare trying to get him to settle.
Today, he had his usual quota of naps and I was congratulating myself thinking we were back on track....then he wouldn't go to sleep at his usual 7.30pm bedtime and was up til gone 9!
I think it's maybe one of those transition phases but don't quite know how to deal with it. It's rough though when they're screaming and you're not sure if it's because they're tired or because they don't want to be in their cot and would rather be doing something else.
