ds has been asleep since 3pm. not sure when to wake him. do any of your toddlers sleep later than 5pm in the day and still go to bed at a reasonable time?

Both of mine keep falling asleep about 4ish and then staying awake for ages. I justwant my evenings back!

I normally wake ds (21 months)by 3.30pm at the very latest - he goes to sleep around 12.30pm or as late as 1pm. What age is your lo? If your lo has had a good 1 1/2 hours sleep then I would be ok with waking them. DS has to be wakened early a couple of times a week so we can get to dd's activities - as long as he gets a minimum of 1 hour he copes ok till bedtime.

ja9 · 30/06/2008 20:03

nope, not as late as that. a late sleep i would maybe allow to go on to 4:30pm at very latest, but usually by 3:30pm. my evenings are too precious!

meglet · 30/06/2008 20:09

I don't let DS sleep later than 3:30. But his naps start around 1pm so he's had a decent sleep by mid-afternoon.

wonderwomanakaeandh · 30/06/2008 20:13

I dont let dd2 sleep past 2pm (shes 17months) and dd1 dropped her naps when she was 2.1 but they both go to bed by 6.30 (7pm the absolute latest) and then dh & I sit down and have our dinner together

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/06/2008 20:15

DD isn't ready for a nap these days until about 4pm, but sometimes she absolutely has to have one then.

Today she slept from 4pm - 5:30pm.
She's just gone up for a bath with dh, but will be very surprised if she's in bed before 9pm, and quite poss closer to 10. She'll still get up at 6am though .

auntymandy · 30/06/2008 20:16

I let mine sleep if thay are tired. but i am one of those mums you all hate!!
mine can fall asleep on home in the car on way from school pick up and sleep till 6am!!

its more difficult to get an over tired child to bed then one thats not tired!

Sparkletastic · 30/06/2008 20:17

DD2 (2) needs her nap but some days won't let herself sleep until 4-5-ish. Wake her up for her tea and then she's okay until 7.30 / 8 then bed and sleeps through just the same.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/06/2008 21:43

As predicted, dd still refusing to go to bed.

SquiffyHock · 30/06/2008 21:44

Never later than 3.30 for a 7 o'clock bedtime. Usually 1-3.

Tutter · 30/06/2008 21:45

no later than 3pm as a ageneral rule

Shitemum · 30/06/2008 21:45

My rule was that they couldn't be asleep less than 3 hours before bedtime.
So, if it was to late they just skipped the nap.

I say 'they', DD1 went along with this but DD2 refuses to nap at all most days...

mazzystar · 30/06/2008 21:47

dd did today [woke up 5.20, then dozed on me till 5.45] and we have been paying hte price till half an hour ago

used to let ds do it when he was pfb - had a strategy of letting him sleep late pm and then have time with daddy in the evenings, but it definitely doesn't work when you have two kids

nappyaddict · 01/07/2008 00:24

sparkle - do you mean she woke up at 4-5 ish or went down for a nap then?

DD (3.3) sleeps from 2 till 4 at the latest. I wake her if she's still asleep by 4. Bedtime at 7:30pm.

ButterflyMcQueen · 01/07/2008 21:42

he normally wakes about 6.30pm but always by 7pm
