Anybody used a sleep counsellor and it hasn't worked?

Am getting to the stage where it's either pay for a sleep counsellor or blow my brains out - I've heard lots of good things about them but has anybody found that they couldn't be helped and feel they wasted their money?

No experience of sleep counsellors, sorry. Just bumping thus for you! What's the problem? Perhaps someone on here could help?

Thanks violet. I've tried all the things I know of but I keep hearing so many good things about sleep counsellors that I wondered if they really did have anything new to say. Most of it seems like either tried & tested methods (PU/PD etc.) or common sense but I am just thinking about contacting one...

How old is your DC?

We used Millpond and they did work fantastically. However, you have to be prepared to follow through their advice - even if it means controlled crying. If you aren't psychologically ready to be firm and consistent, then I guess it won't work. The method they suggested to us was something we could have in theory done independently - but the key was having an agreed plan for both DH and I to follow (so we don't change tack at 2am) and also feeling that someone listened, empathised and said what to do.

Their book is pretty good and I followed it with no.2 at 6 months, but I don't think I'd have been able to do so, if I hadn't had the consultation before.

DC is almost 10 months. Mind you, he slept through the night for the first time last night so maybe he saw my email

We went to NHS Sleep clinic with DD and it was amazing - nothing really that we didn't know, and ended up with a CC type technique, but v. confidence-building and had sleeping through totally sorted in 2 weeks.

Good luck!

I used Naturally Nurturing when my DS was around 5 months - it really worked for us though took about 2 weeks for us to start seeing results and at week 3 it was suddenly so much better. They dont do controlled crying (which I wasnt really keen on doing) but do offer lots of really good ideas and support through out the process. Good luck.

Thanks again, everyone. Seems like nobody has a bad word to say about them - this is what I'm curious about, is there nobody who thought it was a waste of time, or whom it couldn't help?
