Those of you with 3 month-ish babies, make me feel I'm not alone?

I know I should count myself lucky that DS (12 weeks) goes 730-130, but it's the recent addition of 230, 330, 430, 530 630 that's killing me. He was going 730-130, feeding and going straight back down, then either again at 4 or sometimes til 6. I'm so so tired. He doesn't really feed except the 130 and maybe 430, the rest of the time it's just for attention. What do I do, let him try and settle himself(which usually means he wakes up properly) or boob him for 2 minutes and he goes back down? He's also laughing and shouting in his sleep when he is asleep, so I am in shreds. Don't know what best to do!

You're not alone! My 3 month old rarely goes to bed before 10.30 and specialises in lengthy night wakings. He doesn't - fingers crossed - wake up as many times as yours but it can take anywhere from one hour to three hours to get him to go back to sleep. I have to say that I don't even try to let him settle himself - I am reserving those lessons for the daytime as, somehow, it all seems a bit less grim in the daylight - as he would end up crying for hours. I do what works best, which is a quick feed and then some lengthy floor walking. It's not a long term solution but he has recently been diagnosed with reflux and I am too tired to try and change our way of doing things yet. At some point, though, this nettle will have to be grasped. So, no words of advice, I'm afraid, just lots and lots of sympathy. It's truly horrible and I now know why sleep deprivation is sometimes used as a form of torture. I just keep telling myself that it will get better. Maybe said often enough, it will come true???

Growth spurt alert! The best course of action would be to get yourself to bed at 7.30 for a few nights to take advantage of that stretch of sleep.

I know that is the best plan but in reality i just cant sleep at 730. tried twice in last week. why cant i sleep when i'm so tired? scuse the typing, am feeding at the mo..

How is he sleeping in the day? Babies do come into a light sleep frequently, if he is not crying do you leave him to settle himself.?

turtle23 · 24/06/2008 18:23

He sleeps well in the day, total of about 5 hours. The night wakings, he cries the second he wakes. If I leave him it turns to a scream and he wakes properly and doesn't go back easily. If I pick him up he wont settle without the boob. He does go straight back to sleep if I feed hm. Hoping he finds his thumb soon.

I used to struggle too but I do find that it helps to get into pjs and go to bed, even if I just read there. It is more restful than watching tv/doing housework and I quite often drift off. After a bad night last night I am planning to go to bed in an hour.

my 4.5 mth does very similar pattern and feeds each time. i'm knackered and have had to kick dh out of bed cos his snoring on top of it all is too much.
