Floor beds - do you put a gate on the bedroom door?

As in the title really! If you have a floor bed for a one year old, did you put a ‘stair’ gate on the bedroom door?

We did but it was after our DS (aged 1½) had learned how to get out of his cot so we put him in a bed for his own safety. With hindsight we should have known he'd work out how to take the gate apart but it gave us a few minutes head start.
In all seriousness it depends on the child.

Yes because we can't have a stair gate in the usual position and because their room is child proof but the rest of upstairs isn't

No, as she can't reach the door handle (18 months and high handles!), and when she can, we have a gate at the top of the stairs so it's safe. Room is safe, although ours has never got out of the bed herself - yet!

Yes.

No but we had a gate at the top of the stairs.

Thanks all. He’s 1.5 but physically cautious. Not interested in drawers or cupboards etc.

We can’t affix a gate to the stairs due to the bannisters so wondering if we should just try to keep him bedroom door closed overnight or whether we should put a gate outside it!

I keep bedroom doors closed because it’s supposed to be safer if there’s a fire. However with an under 3 sleeping in a bed I’d also add a stairgate to stop any potential nocturnal wandering. I would also fully baby proof the room because he might not stay cautious forever and you can’t ever rule out the possibility that he’ll start trying to climb drawers at 5am.

I would definitely secure any furniture like chest of drawers to the wall - very likely he will become curious at some point and that falling on a toddler would be awful.

Oh we have removed all the furniture from his room. It’s just - floor bed, fitted wardrobes, and a bookcase that’s been secured to the wall.

I just meant that downstairs, in the living room/kitchen etc, he’s not interested in opening drawers or cupboards.
