Snoring vs headphones vs baby!

After a year of taking turns to co-sleep with my baby in the nursery she is finally sleeping for 4 hour stretches in the cot and so, for the first time, last night both me and DH slept in our bedroom.

Within 5 minutes of putting the lights out he was snoring and continued solidly until I gave up and moved to the nursery at 1am.

Pre-baby I used ear plugs but I’m not comfortable doing that whilst needing
to hear the baby, I’m a light sleeper but also exhausted from a year of very broken sleep so not confident I’d hear her if properly asleep. I was wondering about the bone conducting headphones, thinking I could play white noise just loudly enough to deaden the snoring but would hopefully still hear the baby. Does anyone have any experience of that?

I appreciate that I’m likely to be told DH needs to sort this out but he does have a medical condition meaning that he’s really only comfortable flat on his back and as much as he tries to stay on his side where he doesn’t snore, he rolls over as soon as he’s asleep. He’s tried all noses strips, sprays etc. too to no avail so he’s not ignoring the issue but I’m specifically asking about headphone/ear plug options here.

I miss my bedroom, I spent a lot of time pre-baby making it nice!

I wear one earplug in the ear that's not on the pillow. Sometimes I've worn both earplugs when DH is particularly loud. I can still hear if baby cries over the monitor. I think you'll instictively wake now, compared to pre-baby. Worth also leaving your door and nursery door ajar as a backup so you will hear baby if she cries x

I've worn earplugs or AirPods every night from the day baby came home, including co-sleeping. You will hear them cry. We leave our door open.

I also wear one ear plug during the night and can still hear baby when he wakes! I use Loop dream that are designed to drown out snoring but still hear your little one during the night. They’ve been a life saver for me getting some sleep!

Just sleep in with the baby for a while longer (assuming you've got your own nice bed?) Recover from the year of disturbed sleep before adding another thing to overcome x

The baby is almost as noisy as him! She shuffles, sighs and flaps around the cot all night.

Consensus seems to be that one normal ear plug will do the job so I’ll be brave and try that tomorrow. DH is very contrite and insisting that he’ll do all night in the nursery tonight so that I can catch up.

I just wear the earplugs. I generally wake up anyway but obviously DH doesn't need to wear them as he's the one snoring so sometimes he wakes up first.
