Toddler floor bed top tips

Ay the moment my almost 2 year old co-sleeps with me. She has done for a long time because she really struggles with her sleep. We've been making progress though! She is night weaned now and will sometimes only wake up once (from about 6 months to a month or so ago she woke 5/6 times a night so this is huge).

So, we want to gradually transition her to her own bed and her own room. We're thinking a floor bed as she's never really got on with her cot. A double floor bed has the advantage that one of us can stay with her if she needs us to and/or for the transition period.

Please share your floor bed top tips!

Mattress on the floor on slats? Or a fancy floor bed with rails? Cot mattress or adult mattress? Tips for baby proofing the room beyond the obvious? Tips for the transition?

My grandson is the same age and has been sleeping on a double mattress on the floor for the past 6 months. No slats, just the mattress. The bedroom door has always been closed when he is in there. They do have a camera in the room so can see him at all times.

He has a Tonies box which he listens to when he goes to bed.

He has never co slept, so I don't know if that makes a difference when transferring your daughter to her own room.

We have a single-size 'fancy floor bed with rails' for our 15 month old, with a children's mattress (i think this just means it's thinner than an adult mattress). I preferred the rails so it felt more like a cot, and harder to roll out. We have attached the chest of drawers to the wall, no other furniture in the room, and we keep the door shut (she can't reach the handle yet). We let her play on the bed during the day first, and have naps there, so it was familiar. I sleep in there with her from about 3/4am, but we preferred to keep her in there all night rather than bring in our bed. A single bed is fine in our experience, if you are planning to transition her to sleep alone, or only sleep with her a bit of the night. We didn't have room for a double anyway.

We went for a normal double bed with a bed guard. He’s 5 now and it doesn’t feel babyish like a floorbed would and I can’t imagine we’ll ever need to replace the bed frame so pleased not to have gone for something only for the toddler years.
