Sleeping in own bed?

Hi, my almost 3 year old grandson (who lives with me) goes to sleep in my bed, then I transfer him to his toddler bed (which is right up against my bed) so I don't get kicked all night. He comes back into my bed in the early hours.
If I try to put him in the toddler bed awake, he cries. How can I help him transition to sleeping in his own bed without him going to sleep in mine first?
He doesn't have a nap during the day. If he does fall asleep, he's awake until 11pm and he goes to preschool 3 days a week.

I’ve got no advice for you because mine were in and out of my bed until they were five at least. Good luck finding some advice on what to do differently.

I think you should try using more covers and blankets for him. I assume its because the adult bed is more cosy. A cosiness of bed can only be the blankets.

It's definitely not cosiness. He likes to touch my skin.

Can you lie with him / next to him in his bed instead? We got a normal single bed for our toddler so we can do this.

You move out when he is asleep

Yeah I meant just to lie with him til hes asleep, then move. It might help if he falls asleep in his own bed, rather than yours.
