1.5 tog sleeping bag

I’m looking for some advice. We have an 8-week-old baby who sleeps in our room that stays between the high 19s and low 20s according to the Gro-Egg. I’m really anxious about the risk of overheating. Right now, the baby sleeps in a 1-tog sleeping bag and a long-sleeve vest. Online guidance is all over the place—some sources say babies should wear a 2.5-tog up to 20°C, while others say 1-tog is right for 20°C. It would be much clearer if they stated that 1-tog is meant for around 21°C.

I’ve ordered a 1.5-tog sleeping bag because I’m too nervous to use a 2.5-tog, but then I feel guilty because I’m sleeping under a quilt myself. Our baby has never woken up cold and usually feels just right, but I know babies naturally feel warmer than adults. I feel like they might be slightly more comfortable in a 1.5-tog as a middle ground for my peace of mind, but I’m worried—could that still lead to overheating?

We have a heat pump, so the heating runs at a low level 24/7, which might be why the baby seems comfortable in what we dress them in, even though all the guides suggest this setup is more suited to autumn temperatures

If they aren't waking up cold then don't worry about it. I'd have a cellular blanket ready to sling on them if they wake up cold. Otherwise they arr fine.

Our home is around 19 and both my toddler & my 4 week old sleep through the night in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag

Mine slept in a 2.5 tog in a 20 degrees room, anything less and his skin felt cold. But I was nervous as well, I’d recommend touching his skin in the night a few times to get a feeling what’s right. Also make sure that there are no fabrics, pillows etc touching their head so that they can release heat.

That’s quite warm, my room by contrast is between 15&17 overnight though we have a 10.5 duvet. When mine were small we used cellular blankets so no idea what that compares to

I used a 2.5 tog for winter when the house was roughly 18-20 degrees. 1 tog was for summer.

That's very warm for a house temperature overnight, I don't know how you can bear that yourselves! Honestly the guidance is all random in my opinion, in winter we always use 2.5 tog, long sleeve vest and baby grow, but baby in her own room now and it is around 16-17 at night. She's always worn more layers than the guidance says. There's next to no difference between 1 tog and 1.5 tog.

For my baby I do
16- 18'c 2.5 tog with 1 layer underneath
19 - 22'c 1 tog with 1 layer underneath
22-24'c just a vest
24'c+ just a nappy

So if I was you id stick to the 1 tog

Same here, our room sits between 18 and 20 dgs currently. My LO sleeps in a vest (short sleeved) and sleepsuit then a 1.5 sleeping bag and is comfy. Never wakes cold. I personally won't have the room less than 18dgs as the air feels cold to breathe and one year I got pneumonia and thats made me cautious about dropping the temp and wrapping up warmer.
