7 month old now waking and wanting a dummy

Help!! My 7 and a half month old has been a GREAT sleeper since 12 weeks old (very fortunate I know).
He rarely used a dummy and would always spit it out. He didn't even need it to go to sleep with, we just used it in some circumstances when he was a little bit gizzly.
However, since he started teething, he has started to want it a LOT more, day and night, now waking up for me to put it back in.

I have tried putting loads of dummies in the cot for him to grab, but he doesn't. He does go back to sleep straight after I put it in, but I fear I am getting ourselves into a bad habit.

He has been waking a few times for about a week now.

Should I go cold turkey and cut the dummy entirely??
Should I wean him off the dummy? If so, how??
Is this just a phase?! Or will it get worse?

My toddler went through this at that age. We would leave lots of dummies in the cot and she eventually learned to find them herself. In all honesty though, I wish I stopped the dummies then because it only gets much harder to take them away. I managed to remove the bottle and potty train very easily, but she still has her dummies for sleep. Trying to take them away has been horrendous. I'm now aiming to have them gone by 2.5years.

I'd take all the dummies away today. You'll have a few bad nights but the huge benefit at this age is that babies adjust very quickly. Within a few days they will have forgotten all about the dummies. I can't promise they will forevermore be an amazing sleeper (I think it's quite common for many children to go through periods where sleep is more challenging) but the reliance on a dummy can be completely gone by the end of this week.
