20 months wakes at 3am

My little boy had never been a good sleeper but I’m getting to the point of desperation.

Currently 16 weeks pregnant and my 20 month old wakes at 3am for two hours or so before he’ll go back to sleep. He has done this for at least a year with brief fortnightly or so times where he’ll sleep through.

There is nothing wrong with him and we’ve tried everything - room temp, clothing, cuddling, lying on the floor next to the cot, giving a drink etc etc. We don’t always rush in to see if he’ll go back to sleep independently.

Going to bed at night he’s pretty good and can really get himself to sleep.

At the moment he wakes at 6am every day. He naps around 11.30/12pm (nursery do this) and generally sleeps between 1hr15 and 1hr45. He goes to bed around 7.25/7.30pm.

The only thing it could be is teething but he’s not really showing any other signs. He has all his teeth except the second molars at the v back and he’s 20 months.

Any advice is appreciated. Or just solidarity

Some gongs you could try are adding another layer so he’s not cold. I used to put a fleece blanket underneath the bottom sheet for DD when it turned cooler.

Give him some pain relief to see if that helps.

Try getting more calories into him today. So change one if his snacks for something like a round of cheese on toast.

Make his last snack a food that will help with sleep like a peanut butter sandwich.

And lastly, have a read of The No Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers & Preschoolers as I think it has a section on early waking Flowers
