Breastfed baby coughing and spluttering

Hi, my baby is 8 weeks old and is exclusively breastfed. He is putting on weight well and had a tongue tie cut a week ago.
For the last 2 weeks, baby has really been struggling at night when laid flat. He will begin coughing and spluttering and his nose/chest sound wet and full of liquid. It’s the same when he is feeding and he comes off sometimes panting as well as his nose snorting liquid throughout.
His spit up has increased but isn’t terrible, other than a projectile vomit last night.
This has meant that my husband and I have to sleep in shifts holding him upright, this is only sustainable because my husband is not back at work until next week.
Ive been dairy free for the last 2 weeks and it currently hasn’t made an impact. We’ve seen the GP who prescribed Gaviscon but we find it so hard to get that much liquid into him and haven’t seen much of a difference.
I find no health professionals are too worried due to weight gain but he sounds so uncomfortable and his sleep is impacted.
I’m finding this so hard, even when I do try to put him down in his own bed, I can’t sleep due to the noises he’s making and end up picking him up. I also worry he will never want to be put down in his bed again after this period of being constantly held. I’ve also fell asleep with him on my chest multiple times and can’t bear the thought of how unsafe that is.

Has anyone experienced this? Did anything help? When did this stop?

Hi,
I had to gently express a little milk prior to feeding for a little bit as I had an overactive let down so baby was just getting jet washed in the mouth with milk- sometimes she would just about be able to drink it all and then 10 minutes later vomit the lot!x

Try taking baby off when your milk lets down then put baby back on. You’ll know as they will have such a calmer feed x

Is the baby well in themselves?
Have they a temperature or are short of breath when not feeding? Did you have the RSV vaccine when you were pregnant?
