Is 10.5 months too early to drop to one nap?

DS is becoming increasingly resistant to nodding off for his first nap, and his wake window is going from three hours up to around five! Consequently, we have to decide whether to stretch the second wake window until his bedtime (as otherwise he’d have a bedtime of around 11pm), which means he only ends up with one nap. But sometimes even if we decide to go with a second nap, he won’t nod off for that one either!

Example timings today:
7:30 wake up; nap was due at 10:50. He didn’t fall asleep until 12:10.

Woke up at 1:30; second nap now due at a late time of 5:00pm. Had he gone down for it, we’d be looking at a bedtime of around 10:30pm. But he’s still wide awake and hasn’t gone down for it. Meaning he’s been awake now for almost six hours!

What might be going on?

He’s just gone to sleep. So he’s been awake for six hours 15 mins!

My DD went down for one nap at the age. Her timings were 7.30am wake up. Nap 2pm-5pm and sleep at 8pm.

Wake him earlier in the morning to start the day? But I would also say you are leaving it too late to start the morning nap and maybe he's past it by that point. Maybe try a few days of contact/car/Pushchair naps at an earlier time to get him back into the routine of it? And then cap morning nap at half hour if needed. My 17 month old is still having two naps most days, wakes 6.30 ish, naps 9.30ish and then 1.30ish and awake by 3.

How did you manage fitting a three hour nap into your day @BlackLambAndGreyFalcon, was it quite limiting?

I will try putting him down for his first nap sooner @NamelessNinja but I think he wouldn’t have any of it, he’d still be wide awake after just two hours or so. But we can try!

The exact opposite - it was wonderful to have those 3 hours to myself to get things done!! 😀

Ah so you would make sure you were at home for them?

DS has been yawning since 11:20 so I’ve been trying to get him off but he appears to have FOMO of the world around him!

We started to drop to one nap around then but we were changeable depending on the night before.
timings were wake up at 6:30am , nap at 11am - 2pm and then bedtime at 7pm

@Playgo yep. We shifted it to 2pm so it fitted in well with our routine - activity in the morning and then home for nap time. She would nap in the buggy if we were out but not for as long as 3 hours!
