5 month old split nights

Help! So very exhausted. For a couple of months now my 5 month old is having split nights and I just don’t know what we’re doing wrong.
We are following wake windows of around 2.5 hours (rather than set nap times as he wakes for the day at varying times), he’s on 3 naps, first one is one sleep cycle (half hour- 40mins. Second nap at lunch around 1.5 hours and last nap around half hour and always awake by 4.30pm for a 7-7.30 bedtime.

He seems tired at bedtime, we have a cuddle and feed and after half hour he’s down. First wake usually around midnight. Quick feed and back to sleep. But around 2/3am every night he starts chatting away and I just know he’s awake awake… I feed, rock, feed again, rock again… but nothing works until around 2/2.5 hours later when he falls asleep again. Sometimes until 6am sometimes 7ish.

I read split nights are down to too much sleep or not enough sleep. I feel like I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to do in terms of routine for his age so what do I need to change?! I have a very wild 2.5 year old so this sleep deprivation does not pair well with him!!

Any help much appreciated x

What happens when you just leave when he wakes? Is he happy in his cot, chatting away?

@NuffSaidSam for the first half hour or so yes, just very loud chat. But not crying. Problem is he’s in our room so wakes us up (gearing up to move him to his own room) then after about half hour he starts to get fed up and cry. Then I feed and he’s happy and loud again for half hour so and the process repeats!

Moving him into his own room could help full stop I think. Maybe stimulated knowing you’re in there, probably can smell you etc. you could also try cutting that 3rd nap to a 10-15 min one. X
