What are the nap patterns of your 11ish mo old?

DD is in transition and I'm trying to work out what her next pattern will be. Some days she drops her morning nap which for months has been between half an hour and an hour two hours after waking. But some days needs still needs it desperately. Also she seems to now be able to go four or nearer five hours between afternoon nap and bedtime - this is quite new and means if her afternoon nap (which has been for ages at 1.30/2ish for between an hour or two) finishes later than 3 she's wide awake way past her traditional bedtime of 7.30.

She's obviously headed for a cut to one nap but not just yet. Just interested to hear what your DCs of similar ages are up to in terms of their naps.

Just turned one year old can be pushed to stay awake til 11am (6.30 wake up) sleeps til 2 has lunch then keeps going til bedtime at 7pm. Is she walking? His attempts at walking are quite tiring him out just now...

That's interesting. She's not walking on her own but alot of walking with me as zimmer frame and lots of trolley pushing which is wearing her out and making her sleep better at night.

She only naps in sling, buggy, car or with me in bed so I don't think a three hour nap would work although it would be great and would solve the bedtime issue.

When do you give your DS lunch?

Just turned one and almost the same as cam - awake around 6:30am, nap 11:30am-1:00pm ish, bedtime around 7:30pm. If he is awake really early he sometimes needs 10 minutes sleep around 9am to get thim through to lunchtime. DS has just started walking and he slept through until 7:30am this morning, he's never slept 12 hours before!

Breakfast on waking (cereal)

Snack around 9am (breadstick or such like)

Hot lunch at 11am

Tea at 3pm (something like a sandwich)

Supper when we have dinner at 6:30pm

That sounds dreadfully regimented doesn't it!

He gets lunch at 2pm and milk when he goes down at 11am. It seems to suit him perfectly as he will eat better when he is not tired. And he gets to spend the afternoon with his brother and sister when they get home from school. He is in his bed though and it does mean you can't move around during those three hours (not an issue for me as I have help )

ds2 is 10mo

he wakes ridiculously early (5ish) so needs his first nap at 8:30 or 9ish

i tend to wake him after an hour (he'd sleep for ages)

back down at 1ish, generally for an hour and a half (ish)

awake til bedtime (7pm)

Hmm, I think she is heading towards needing one long nap which is a bit tricky as she still isn't very good at sleeping in a bed on her own! Hoping the more she starts running around the better her sleep quality will become - that's what it's looking like so far...

For now I think she's some days like Tutter's DS.

Anyway, just finally got her down (late afternoon nap today!) so off to eat some food!

A word of caution re dropping naps, as soon as she starts walking properly you may need to re-introduce it.

My DD2 is now nearly 16 months. I dropped her morning nap for a while around 12 months as she just didn't seem to need it any more but as her activity increased she desperately needed it again (or would fall asleep practically on her feet by 11.30 and be too tired for lunch. So I put the morning nap back in a couple of months ago. I now put her down for a nap about 2 hours after she wakes up (so somewhere around 9 / 9.30am) but only let her sleep for half an hour (if left to her own devises she'd sleep much longer). It just gives her enough of a boost to get her happily through to lunch time but doesn't stop her sleeping after lunch. She has lunch at about 12.30 (and has done since she was about 10 months old to fit in with her sister) and I try and get her into bed again by 1pm. I never let her sleep later than 3pm, even if she's gone to bed later than 1pm as it definitely has a knock on effect at bedtime if she's not up by 3.

You also might find that she starts napping better in her cot once she's walking properly and tiring herself out.

that's interesting nelly. i think part of it is i have to control her waking times a bit more. i've just started trying to nap with her in the afternoon as our nights are bad just lately, but she tends to sleep longer that way. might be better to stick to our sling naps...
