Hi all, with this hot weather we are having our bedroom is at 27° we've tried everything to cool it down. What do I dress my baby up so she's not too hot , would a short sleeved vest be okay

Just a nappy should be fine if it’s really hot, and a muslin cloth for a sheet. If you think it might be a bit chilly, a vest will be fine too.

Alwaystired2023 · 18/06/2025 21:20

Yes of course, or just a nappy if they are feeling v warm. You can also get sleeveless vests to be a bit cooler, or 0.2 tog sleep bags if they are used to one of them. My first born was born in a heatwave and often I just slept her in a nappy

Short sleeve vest is fine but bear in mind temps drop overnight so if she wakes remember to check if she is too cold.

Jodiebowes · 18/06/2025 21:24

Thank you the last few nights we've had her ij short sleeved pjs and her arms and legs are getting cold, don't want her being cold but also don't want her being hot

On the bus today a couple pushed their baby on in a pram, hood fully up, cover pulled right up, blanket hanging over hood as sunshade. Baby must have been sweltering - couldn’t actually see it!

TakeMe2Insanity · 18/06/2025 21:30

short sleeve vest here.

Cantgetausername87 · 18/06/2025 21:32

Yeah short sleeved vest or just nappy. My baby was born in a heatwave too and I remember it being a worry! Just be aware they may get cold in the night - are they you for feeds anyway? If so you can add a blanket etc then if needed. Best to be too cold than over heat

@Jodiebowes it is the back of the neck/back or stomach you need to feel - arms and legs, the extremeties, do tend to feel cold to the touch on babies, but it doesn't mean that they are feeling cold. 🙂

Alwaystired2023 · 18/06/2025 21:53

I think they say that legs and arms are okay as long as torso feeling okay. But if you think baby runs a bit cold maybe a very light summer sleep sack will help?

CharlieUniformNovemberTango2023 · 18/06/2025 22:31

Nappy and 0.5 tog sleep bag

KatRee · 18/06/2025 23:15

Google baby sleep layers temperature and a load of charts come up in the images tab advising what to dress them in in all temperatures. Most suggest nappy only for 27 degrees and above. Our 4 month old is just in a nappy tonight- 28 degrees in here

SquashPenguin · 18/06/2025 23:18

My 12 month old is in just a nappy and a 1.0 tog bag, she seems comfy enough!

Shhhitsasecret1 · 19/06/2025 07:21

I'm putting my 16wk old in a short sleeved vest and 1 tog bag - I think our room is slightly cooler though (thermostat says 22/23c) and I'm keeping the windows open at night. Loads of advice on Google though which recommend what to put on them.
