Baby waking himself up with hands

Recently my baby has been waking up when being put down in his next to me bed. His startle reflex keeps kicking in, even when he's been lying down for a while. Then he'll bring his hands up to his face and this wakes him up every time. He's only lasting a few minutes at a time in his next to me, so we're not getting any sleep. Including poor baby. Has anyone dealt with this before and can advise how to stop it happening? He's 2 months. Thanks I'm advance, replies from anyone who's gotten around this would be much appreciated!!

Adorable!! 🥰 it's rare to get a real photo these days, back in the day when us dinosaurs roamed MN we posted loads of photos!?

Aw thank you 🥰 I'm a photo girl, think I must be a visual learner! Sometimes it's nice to just see what you're trying to say x* *

@dontcomeatme we have the gro egg and a chart saved on my phone with the temperature guide 🙈I wouldn't remember otherwise.
What about rolling btw? My son doesn't roll just yet, but he sometimes brings his legs up and rolls a little from side to side. I'm worried if he rolls onto his front swaddled. He's very wriggly!

I have temperature anxiety it was so much worse with my oldest, I felt terrified to sleep in case he got too hot 😅
My son does the same, especially if he has wind, he rocks side to side! The chances of him fully rolling at this age are probably less than 1%, especially with his arms in, he loses half of his strength and momentum. I think my oldest didn't roll till 5/6months so you have a good chunk of time yet x

It's a bit early for him to be able to roll over properly. Once they can roll well it doesn't matter how they sleep. DD would roll onto her tummy and sleep with her bottom in the air, cute and funny. But since she could roll she was always been a front sleeper, couldn't have stopped her.

Will see how it goes tonight!
Thank you everyone 💛

Another vote here for the Love to Dream swaddlebags! They were a life saver for us when we had this issue. We used them when my daughter was 3-6 months, once she started rolling over onto her front we had to stop. But they’re much less constrictive than proper swaddling, and they worked brilliantly for us. She slept so well!

Good luck!

Another mum with a baby that's HATES swaddling hbiy had a very active Moro reflex here 👋 we tried all the options including LTD.one with the arms up. She hates them all. She will only tolerate a swaddle if you're holding and rocking her, if you put her down in one she would spend the whole time wrestling out until she was awake and in a state!

She's 11 weeks now and the Moro reflex is subduing a little, if that's.any consolation. She stays settled if I keep my hand on or near her, we have a crib attached to my side of the bed so that's possible.

We had the Love 2 Dream arms up swaddle. It was great. No issues with breastfeeding.

You do have to take them out at the first signs of rolling, 8 weeks is close to that so be vigilant.

The worst part for us was we had to take him out of it at 9 or 10 weeks as he started rolling.....he also kept waking himself up with his hands, it was 3-4 weeks of very disturbed sleep until he stopped.

Not everyone agrees with co sleeping but personally I see it as the answer to almost all baby related problems. Babies do that because they're basically checking if you're there. If they reach out and make contact with your body they're reassured and go back to sleep.

I bedshared mostly and found neither of my babies startled like that in the bed with me, other bedsharing mums have said the same.
