Rolling over onto tummy is stopping 8mo DS from sleeping

DS has always been hopeless at napping but now that he is almost crawling, all he wants to do is roll over onto his tummy. He seems to do it almost involuntarily, as soon as you lie him down he tries to roll over straightaway. Anyway, it's making it nigh on impossible to get him to nap because as soon as he rolls over he's getting up on all fours. I woudln't mind him sleeping on his front but he doesn't even do that, he just gets straight up and starts trying to crawl. I lie there with him at nap time and put my arm across him, to stop him rolling over, but this makes him furious and he screams his head off at it!

We had this with DD, right up until she started walking and now that DS is doing it too I'm wondering if many babies are like this? None of the other babies I know do/did it - anybody here? I know you can get sleep positioners for tiny babies, but I don't think there's anything you can do about this really - unless anybody has any bright ideas!

Hi, we had this for the first time today. We put DD (8.5 months) down to sleep tonight went back in after a few minutes and discovered she was over, on her front and on all fours and shouting. Argh!

If you put him in a cot for naps could you tuck him in tight or tuck the end of the gro-bag down at the bottom of the cot?

Luckily DD was tired from an early bout of rolling and crawling backwards from one end of the nursery to the other, so she settled fairly quickly after we righted her but I forsee problems in the future and a cot lowering tomorrow.

Mooki, I could try tucking the Grobag in, that's an idea... it's either that or hand-cuffs

Let me know how you get on. Madam did it in the middle of the night too and we ended up having her in with us in the end.

You're making me worried - DS does this and he's only 4 months! He learned to roll back to front a month ago, but has started doing it all the time - he's always on his front within 10 seconds of putting him on his back. This is wreaking absolute havoc with his daytime naps, and he often wakes himself a couple of times in the night by doing it (he currently sleeps on his side).

I tried rolled up towels by his side, but they didn't work. Am tempted to try a sheet across him tucked in to pin him down tonight! Only problem is just getting him sleepy in the first place - I'd imagine both him flipping back to front and me faffing around with a sheet would induce the same amount of screaming.

If anyone's got any tips of how to get a hyperactive 4 month old who's into everything (and constantly flips himself over!) to nap during the day I'd be very grateful. Currently it involves large amounts of screaming and/or being walked around his bedroom for 20 minutes.
