15 month old latched for naps

My 15 month old is breastfed and does often feed to sleep. At night he will delatch and I can transfer him to the cot and can sleep really well. Last night slept 9 hours straight!

He has one nap a day and he wants to stay latched for this the whole time. If I try and detach him he wakes up crying and still tired.

Any advise? I’d like to get me time whilst he naps

He will sleep in the car or pram for DH but holds out for milk with me

Can you feed or cuddle to sleep on a floor bed and roll away (this is what we used to do)

Unfortunately he stays latched and when I try to break the latch he wakes up

Hi,

My baby is 11 months EBF and also feeds to sleep for all naps and bedtime.
I have noticed the exact same pattern forming when my baby stays latched she’s either undertired or overtired!
Its like she is not quite ready for her nap but loves milk and the cuddles so just sort of goes into a very very light slumber whilst feeding or really overtired and just can’t go into a deep sleep so stays latched to keep herself settled.
if I watch her sleepy cues more and try and get that sweet spot she un latches herself and drops into good sleep. I think maybe look at your nap timing? May be a little earlier or later?

I hope this might help you im still working on it but that seems to be the issue for us. xx

Have you tried feeding him in your bed for naps only? This can work for some although if it was me I’d probably fall asleep too! Grin

You may need to think about breaking the feed to sleep association. Sounds impossible but it is possible: Start by cuddling to sleep, it will take good a few nights and move on from there. Focus on bedtime rather than naps to start off with as changes are easier at bedtime with more sleep pressure.

This is from when we worked with a sleep consultant for a similar issue and it did work for us. We completely separated the feed (breastfeed) from sleep by doing it downstairs pre bath, story etc.

Use a dummy when you detach him

Will he sleep in the pram? You could try having a few naps in the pram and walk for the first 10 min until fast asleep and then wheel the pram inside. When she was a baby (up to 10-11 months) she would wake when th epram stopped moving but as a toddler I found she would stay asleep.

That sounds frustrating! I think I would either give the pram another go or use it as an excuse to watch tv and have a cuppa while baby sleeps. You could also try adding in other sleep associations like singing, patting or rocking.

Hopefully it’s a short-lived phase in the scheme of things and sounds like night sleep is going amazingly at least :)
