7 month old waking at night every 45 minutes

Hi all,
As the title states my 7 month old is waking at night every 45 minutes and I need help!
He’s always been a fairly good sleeper in his next to me and used to sleep 8/9 hours, have a feed and then go back to sleep for 3 more. I’ve recently moved him into his own room (he outgrew his next to me) but as soon as I lay him down, he wakes up and screams. As soon as I pick him up, he immediately settles and falls back asleep in my arms.

A bit of background:
Only has 4 30 minute naps a day which he used to always have on someone and was never put down. The last month or so, he has still been falling asleep on me and I try to transition into his cot but he wakes up immediately crying. I’ve tried to put him down awake but sleepy but this doesn’t work for him, just wakes up laughing and wanting to play. He has been weaning for about 5 weeks and loves his food!

I don’t believe in the cry it out method so looking for other methods and ideas to get him to sleep longer!

Please help this tired mama!

I think that age is the absolute worst for sleep! Can you try safe cosleeping? It's the only way we stayed sane. Look up the Lullaby Trust safe sleep 7, and Lyndsey Hookway on Instagram is a great resource - she trains midwives and health visitors www.instagram.com/lyndsey_hookway?igsh=OGJzdDN4aXE0b3Y=

@MaiaForEmperorhonestly I’m exhausted! We’ve done the occasional few hours of cosleeping but I get no sleep! My LO likes to stretch out and there’s no room. I’ll check out the post though, thank you!

Four naps is a lot for this age, 2 or 3 would be more typical. It may be that he isn't tired enough to have a nap, and also that he hasn't had long enough awake between his last nap and bedtime which is causing the frequent wakes due to sleep pressure being too low.

I would stretch his wake windows out to get him to 3 naps per day and a good long stretch awake between Nap#3 and bedtime.

In terms of sleeping on his own during the day, it may take him longer to get to that point - I know it did for my baby, who only really got there at the age of 1.

We did the put down pick up method, not sure if that’s what it’s actually called. You put them down drowsy but awake and give them pats or rock until drifts off but if they start to shout/cry you pick them up straight away resettled then put back down. Keep going with this until LO doesnt cry when put down. First night took an hour now We are on night 4 and I left LO with open eyes and he was asleep with in a minute. Apparently it’s teaching them you’ll be there if they actually need you so they feel safer to fall asleep alone.

must say we are still getting night wakings after about 3 hrs but we think that’s because he has learnt to blow raspberries lol. bed time had become a lot easier though

@NewMummaGwe decided to implement something similar in the end! Still rock to sleep and put down nearly asleep. He’s now sleeping 730-3am before waking for a cuddle but then goes back down until 6:30am! Glad it’s working for your LO, the raspberries stage is fun 😂
