Co sleeping with older baby

Hann376 · 24/03/2025 10:12

Have just started bringing 6mo into bed with me for 2nd part of the night as she won’t settle in crib from around 3am.

I’m aware of the safe co sleeping guidelines but I don’t get how to position myself or how to do the c curl position, it feels like baby is too long for me to do this - is this only necessary with younger babies ?

Also if i continue co sleeping but I need to be away from baby for a couple nights when she is around 10mo how can my husband co sleep safely when im not there?

You & your husband should continue to follow the safe sleep guidance if you are going to co sleep, the C shape is absolutely fine still, baby doesn’t need to be right “in” the C, have a look at some diagrams online. It’s still fine for my daughter at 11 months

My DD was quite long and I dropped my legs down, but kept my arm up to stop me rolling. We also had a side car cot for more room.

Generally if your DH is sober and switched on, he shouldn’t need to do anything much differently to you!

I bought a bed side panel thing to stop DCs rolling out. Then put them between me and that. DH snored away peacefully on the other side.

came in useful later as well when they were learning to sleep in a big boy bed!

Sorry to be that person, but I personally wouldn’t recommend using this with a baby so young, especially when they are rolling. A clear bed is much safer, even more so if can move to a floor bed! Aware this isn’t always possible and not sure where you are in terms of cosleeping being permanent.

Check out happy cosleeper on Instagram as she’s amazing for advice!

My memory is that by this age, I didn't sleep in such a tight C shape. I would generally have one arm above babies head and their face essentially facing my boob but my legs might be at a bigger variety of angles and often I would put a pillow behind my back and rest back into that.

Unfortunately, these aren’t safe until the baby is 18 months old.

how Come it isn’t safe? I thought it was safe before 18months if baby is in bed with you not in their own bed?

Due to the risk of entrapment. It even says on the product info that they shouldn’t be used before 18 months old.

Are you able to side car a cot?
