18 month old never slept through + screaming

My son is 18 months and has never slept through the night. He wakes every night without doubt. Every night he wakes screaming and I mean really screaming, this isn’t a one off this isn’t regression he does it every single night and has done for as long as I could think. I’m exhausted I can’t afford a sleep coach and also unsure what they’d even be able to do because he goes to sleep super fine no issues there it’s just staying asleep that’s the issue.

I’m crying every night in exhaustion and it’s all started to take it’s toll on me

Does he wake at the same time and what happens when you go to him?

He wakes anywhere from midnight - 4am he continues to scream, we are trying to get him out of having a bottle through the night but it’s the only thing that stops him crying for 10 minutes at least then still doesn’t settle after that for another hour at least

What happens if he’s in your bed all night?

He tends to wake between 7-8 we go on the school run and when we get back he plays inside then sometimes he’ll nap around 11-1 but each day varies if we go out and about in the day he will have max 40 minutes nap can’t get him to nap any longer when we’re out, start bath and bed time from 6 out and dressed for bed by 6:30 has a 5 minute run around then has his milk and asleep by 7

And his meals?

MistyFrequencies · 14/03/2025 17:10

Left field but check hes not hypermobile. My son woke nightly screaming for years, wasnt until he was 4-ish when he could explain his joints wete hurting (late talker) and we got him to Physio who explained hypermobility often results in night pain.

He is most likely overtired which can result in night waking and night terrors.

I would wake him at exactly the same time every day to make his routine more predictable overall.

7am wake
substantial breakfast and cup of cows milk

9.30am snack and then activity with plenty of running around and daylight eg park

11.30 lunch with plenty of protein and a large drink of water. Full fat Greek yoghurt for dessert

12-2 nap in cot

2.30 cup of milk and snack and then activity like in the morning

5pm dinner, carb based and less protein heavy. Dessert.

6pm bath and milk

6.30pm bed, asleep by 7pm

Solidarity, 19 months and counting and never slept through, sleep got terrible at 5 months and never recovered so interrsted to see suggestions on here. He has a very congested nose all the time so just been to gp about that as worried its adenoids or tonsil issue as he wakes up with a blocked nose and cries with frustration at constantly waking to open his mouth to breath or dreaming fear like a night terror when he's not breathed for a few seconds.

It's easier for one of us to sleep in his room as the layout of the house means walking through for every wake up would be worse than just reaching over to him so he then wakes and sees us not there if kts the evening and cries for that too. We're going to resort to some sleepntraining when we know more about his congested nose, we've not wanted to but last night was 8 wakes ups, worse than when he was a newborn, and its taking a toll on us now 19 months in.

We've tried everything else :(

Did you ever find anything that work! As you can tell by the time of this post I've been going through the same thing with my 18 month and just don't know what else to try
