Hello,
I need some advice and not sure if I'm doing right or wrong. I have posted about my baby's naps before but need to know if I'm overthinking things, she has got to the point where she will stay awake from 2.30pm till at least 6.30 sometimes 7pm. Am I right in thinking she should have another nap in the afternoon, my partner seems to think it's ok for her to stay awake all afternoon and have bedtime for 7pm but I worry she's overtired and if this can cause her problems. I don't want to force her to nap but just want to do the right thing for her but also wondering if she was to sleep less in the day would she sleep better at night?

I'd have bedtime at 6 30 with no nap and see how that goes I think.

Does she sleep well at night?
Cutting naps you could risk overtiredness.
She is little still.

Iv tried 6.30 bedtime before and she woke every 3 hours. One the odd occasion she wakes from nap at 4.30 or 5pm and has 7 pm bedtime she sleeps till 3 for a bottle then sleeps again till 6.30 am. Also she's just had a feed at 3.30 pm surprised me with a 20 min nap and is now awake so I'm pondering if she needs another bottle or will wait till 6.30 bedtime routine and bath to be in bed for 7. Why do babies cause so much confusion 😂 I worry about her naps so much

Life would be boring otherwise 😂😭

You can offer 3 naps. I was told if they dont sleep after 15nins scrapn8t and try after an hour.
My DS2 is 7 months and lasted 2 weeks he wanted to drop the 3rd nap usually 5pm-5:45 pm. But huckleberry says to keep the 3rd nap as long as possible. If we are out for a walk he will take it but at home he refuses no matter what I try he just gets annoyed so I leave it. But he feom day 1 s at his bedtime of 7:30. And he gets ratty if he isnt in bed by then even if he has a late nap and wakes at 6pm still bedtime is 7:30. Totally opposite to DS2.

What ever you do there isn't a right or wrong way. I didn't have set nap times with my 4 they were either tired or not tired.

Baby naps are my biggest headache 🤣 I know that if I'm tired I feel really rubbish and I expect baby girl to feel the same but she's so happy even when she has stayed awake for hours and sometimes seems like she's had a few red bulls. 🤣

It sounds like you are doing a great job being attentive to your babys sleep needs! At four months old, most babies still need about 3-4 naps a day, and a long wake window from 2:30 PM to 6:30 or 7 PM could be too much, leading to overtiredness.

Signs of overtiredness include fussiness, difficulty settling, short naps, and frequent night wakings. If your baby is showing these signs, it might be helpful to encourage an afternoon nap, even if it's just a short one.

A common schedule for a four-month-old includes wake windows of about 1.5-2.5 hours. If your baby is resisting naps, you could try adjusting nap lengths, wake windows, or using different soothing techniques.

If she truly refuses an afternoon nap, then an earlier bedtime (like 6:30 PM) could be a good option, as another commenter suggested. But if she is waking up very early or struggling at night, an afternoon nap might still be necessary.

Ultimately, every baby is different, so a little trial and error might be needed to find the best balance.
