Mama needs sleep

so I have always struggled with my sleep and honestly found cannabis the best way to help me sleep after my mirtrazapine stopped working for me. Now I’m a mum I don’t have that stuff in my house. Now my baby sleeps better I am struggling to fall asleep again at night now I’m not exhausted from long nights. My GP said about re prescribing mirtrazpine but I said no as I was worried I would struggle to wake up if needed. What do other mums do to help them sleep at night? My baby still doesn’t sleep through the night he just settles easier and for longer but can still wake about 6-8 times during the night and my partner does some wakes as he only needs 1 or 2 feeds during the night. so I need to be able to wake and not be at risk of falling asleep holding them.

It's difficult because you're fighting nature. Your body is now designed to be hyper-alert to your baby's needs. My fourth has only just started sleeping for longer periods aged 2. The last few years have taught me just how little sleep a human body can function on. Our wonderful first health visitor said 'Do whatever you need to get the most sleep for everyone.' I suggest shifts - one of you takes the first half of the night, then swap. That way you both get a solid block of sleep. Hang on in there - it's not forever.

Mirtazapine doesn't stop me from waking when my little one wakes up, but obviously i don't know how universal that is.

Have you tried melatonin?

It used to send me asleep and I would sleep through alarms which I had never done before so I’m scared to risk it again. My partner easily sleeps through him crying through the night and he takes it so I’m worried to start taking it again

This could work. Might have to try this out. Thank you

I haven’t. I know my mum has tried it and says it doesn’t work for her but everyone is different. May have to give it a go
