4 month sleep regression and about to go on holiday - help!

Last week DS had his 16 week jabs and this seems to have coincided with the dreaded 4 month sleep regression. We have gone from pretty reliably sleeping through the night (or only sometimes needing a 3am feed) to waking up every hour between midnight and 6am :( :( we are also going on holiday next week for 12 nights and have spent quite a lot of money on the trip and I’m now a bit concerned we are going to be too exhausted to really enjoy it.

Is there anything we can do or do we just need to wait it out? Is he too young to sleep train - not sure how this will even work necessarily as we will be in the same room? Previously when sleep has been tricky my husband and I have done shifts overnight and slept in separate rooms, but this won’t be possible on holiday.

DS doesn’t seem to be hungry when he wakes (I try and give him as many calories as I can during the day) but he just needs comfort and just seems to be very restless and sleeping lightly when he does doze off. He also wakes from wind and his dummy falling out, but I think he is just trapped in very light sleep cycles.

any advice for a FTM would be much appreciated! I spoke to my friend who said it lasted 3 months for her LO which has got me scared!

Yeah, we had a weekend away booked when my baby was 15/16 weeks. We cancelled it. There is no easy fix.

You cancel or hope for the best and suck it up.

Are you breastfeeding? Cosleeping did help loads for a short time while we were going through it, baby could latch and eat and we would both go back to sleep easily. It wasn't great sleep for me so I only did it for a few weeks out of desperation. You can sleep train around 5-6 months but it has to be at a time when baby is showing signs that they are ready, they're not sick or going through a milestone, and in their routine (i.e. not on holiday).

Welcome to parenthood! Regressions in sleep are developmentally appropriate. Your baby is far too young to sleep train

To be honest his sleep will probably change by next week! I wouldn’t worry, you can’t really predict one day to the next with that age. Mines nine months and only just doing longer stretches at night again after six weeks of illness and waking up every couple of hours again for what seemed like an age! Just try and get by and lots of coffee, co sleeping might mean you get longer stretches too but he’s waking for a reason, might be hunger as growth spurt or comfort as so many developmental changes!

@BigBlueEyes678 ah sorry to hear that. Cancelling isn’t an option for us for various reasons so just have to suck it up! He starts off every night in his bassinet and then we normally move him into our bed at 3am or so as it’s easier to comfort him that way, but I don’t love co-sleeping and I think we probably sleep worse as a result!

@Butterflysunshine01 you’re probably right. Thinking about it a bit more it could be hunger - I’m just always really worried about over-feeding him as he is bottle-fed and an absolute guzzler (he already has 6 bottles a day of 6 to 7oz!)

You can sleep train from 4 months if that’s what you want to do. Ferber is recommended from 4 months+. The shush pat method is recommended for babies up to 6 months, after that it doesn’t work as well. PUPD is thought to work best for babies 4-8 months. So there are absolutely sleep training methods you can do if that’s what feels right to you. But a hotel really isn’t the right environment so whatever you do I’d wait until you get back. Just make the best of it- lots of coffee for you guys and family nap time every day!
