Bed rail height - co sleeping toddler

19 month old DD ends up cosleeping with us about 50% of the time. I always aim to put her in her cot but some nights she’s just not having it! We have double bed against the wall in DD room where I have been cosleeping until now but have recently started to find it too small. We now bring her in with us a lot, superking with DD in the middle. I find we both sleep better there, not sure why. Maybe as DH there too for snuggling into? I always thought it was a temporary solution and she would eventually just go in her cot….now realising that may not happen soon and want to get a proper arrangement for cosleeping.

Thinking of getting a bed rail for the side of our bed and sleeping with her there. DH would go next door. We’d all have more space. They come in different heights, do I get a tall 60 cm one? But worried she may topple over it? The lower one may not contain her though.

She’d always be with me or supervised when sleeping there.

Anyone got any other advice on toddler cosleeping arrangements? What worked for you?

It’s safer not to have a rail. If they try and climb over it it’s further to fall, she might always be with you but she could be on the move while you’re sleeping. At this age best to teach them how to get down safely, or use a floor bed so you’re closer to the ground.

Co slept with both, from birth. Never had any gagdets. When they were little I rolled up a towel under the sheet to create a small barrier. But at 18 months I wouldn't have thought you need anything?

She can definitely climb down off our bed safely which is one of the reasons I’d rather she was in that bed. The double in DD room is quite high. She fell asleep at my feet the other night which has prompted me to find a safe and permanent solution!

I’ve thought about a floor bed too but it a real faff to take our bed frame to bits and we’ve got nowhere to store it.

Were your partners in the same bed? What about sleeping bags? I use them if she’s in the cot just now.
