When and how did your DC drop last nap? 2yo not napping very suddenly

Hello all! My DS is 2y3m and has all of a sudden gone on a nap strike, currently at 9 days with no nap 😱 Usually he has one nap a day for 1.5-2.5 hours. He skips it a few days a week, about 1-3 days a week, but often that is when he is not with me. I’ve always thought he would be on the early side when dropping his last nap, but this took me by surprise! It came all of a sudden, rather than gradually as I’d expected and as has been the case when dropping previous naps, and also I can see that he still needs a nap. He gets tired, yawns, gets more emotional, and almost falls asleep or nods off briefly in the car but then snaps awake if I move him. It’s as if life is just too exciting to nap! I wouldn’t mind him not napping (I’d actually have an evening!) but my worry is that he is clearly tired and would benefit from keeping his nap for now.

When and how did your DC drop their last nap? Was it gradual or sudden? Did they ever have temporary blips where they stopped taking naps for a while and then went back to them?

There is a bit of a sleep regression around 2 (if i remember rightly). DD1 had a few weeks of resisting naps but she has always been a very high sleep needs child and clearly wasn't coping with no nap. She suddenly then went back to napping until she was around 3yo. She is 3.5yo now and still naps on a weekend (although she has dropped it in the week at nursery). I was cross with nursery at the time because they kept telling me "ooooh, she's ready to drop her nap!" when she had massive bags under her eyes and was grumpy as anything. But I insisted they keep offering her a nap, although said i was fine if she said she didn't want one, and she did go back to it. So that's a very long way of saying maybe just keep keep offering and if he doesn't want it, no issues but if he does, then you might find he goes back to it!

Thank you, @Noodlesnotstrudels! This gives me hope that perhaps it’s just temporary or that at least he might still nap on some days. Today he finally did, so he can’t be totally done with napping yet. Phew 😅
