10 week old naps and breastfeeding

Hello all, just wanting to compare with other parents as DH and I are clashing! Currently my (very unsettled and refluxy) 10 week old DD (second baby) is sleeping very well at night - a miracle as our first was HORRENDOUS (making the most of this whilst it lasts as I've no doubt once the 4 month regression hits we'll be back to no sleep!). However, naps are a different story. She fights daytime sleep - only sleeps either on the boob or in the pram, and in the pram I can only get 30mins out of her before she wakes (and usually screams bloody murder until I get her out!). The best naps she has are when I feed her, she falls asleep and then latches on and off my breast - she'll sleep for a good 1hr30mins if I do this. My husband thinks I shouldn't let her, that as soon as she's asleep I should be putting her in her cot. In some aspects I agree, I do want her to get used to her cot for day sleep as well as night, it's just the minute I lie her flat she wakes and is upset again. She is a very unsettled baby in general - huge issues with reflux which I don't want to derail this thread with as we are in the process of investigating/sorting. So if this method if napping is what brings her comfort and sleep then I want to stick with it for now. Do other mums do this? I know I'm effectively a human dummy (I wish she'd take one but I've given up trying!!) but at the moment it works!!

If it works, it works! She's so little and sleep is so important for them so it's prioritise that. It's your boobs being used so your choice!

Plenty of time to work on sleeping in cots etc when she has less reflux. I never set much store by this whole building a rod for your back etc. who knows what they'll do in a few months time, they don't read the books!

Enjoy the chance to sit down whilst she's sleeping. For what it's worth my eldest never once napped in a cot in her life - on the boob or in the pram. I never bothered to "fix" that and it did her absolutely no harm x

Thank you!! This is my thought too, as long as it works and she's well rested I don't mind! And roll on the days of less reflux 🙈

My baby is 4.5 months and terrible with naps but sleeps in her cot at night. Similar to you, the only way to get a good nap was to do exactly that. The advantage was I would nap with him then too.

I would also say my baby was a great sleeper at 10 weeks but it all went to shit at 12 weeks when he started rolling and we unswaddled. So enjoy that night time sleep now, babies change all the time.

I kept hold of both DC for daytime naps if they fell asleep on me (sometimes in the carrier so I could do other things) as they seemed to nap better. Like yours they slept fine in the cot at night (although it might take a few attempts to get them down) and I didn't want to mess with it if it was working!

Aah yes I remember the 4 month regression well with my eldest daughter 🙃🙈. She was such a great night sleeper and then it all went to hell until she was 2 years old 😂. So just enjoying this whilst it lasts!!

That's it! If it's working why change it!? My DD is a funny one with the carrier/sling - very much depends on her mood whether she'll stay in it or not!
