Do I night wean?

My girl is 16 months. She wakes up between 3 and 6 times a night. It was down to two fairly consistently until she had to start nursery in September. She and I have been ill almost non-stop since then. I’m back at work four days a week and struggling!

Do I just suck it up and night wean? I can’t take her crying for long periods. She gets so upset and can’t calm herself down. She hasn’t fed to sleep at the start of the night for nearly a year but all night wake ups are pretty much fed to sleep. I hate to see her upset but I don’t think I can carry on waking up this often. It doesn’t help that my husband has zero empathy for this situation!

Solidarity as I'm in the same boat but she's 20 months. Hope you find a solution that works for you 😊

@SpringTime2023 God, it’s hard work, isn’t it?
Think I’d be managing the lack of sleep better if I could just get over the constant illness!

I'll share my technique, although it didn't decrease night wakings immediately, they did reduce and when daytime naps ended both dc often slept a solid 11 ish hours. Both dc were about 18 months at this point and I co-slept in their beds untill this point and fed on demand.
I fed them to sleep then left the room and slept in my own room. When they first woke I withheld the first feed of the night and instead carried then while I paced/ bounced/ rocked/ sang to them untill they were asleep, maybe 20 minutes on the first night. It would have been much more if I'd left them on their beds. Then I went back to my own bed till they woke the second time. At this point I got in with them and fed on demand for the rest of the night.
They are older now, so my memory is a bit hazy, especially because dc1 is still a sleep thief so my brain is usually mush.
