I was away and I am back

suzywong · 13/01/2005 04:31

I have been thinking about this, and I reckon the reason ds2 wakes every night at 4am is that that is exactly the time I had my waters broken with him when I was in labour
What do you reckon?

elliott · 13/01/2005 10:57

ds1 nearly 5 months
ds2 nearly 6 months
But they both went through phases of waking at 5-ish for about the next 6 months. They were both bf and didn't sleep through until well onto solids (I know many people will say it has nothing to do with it, but I think for mine it did, partly because I only felt confident about stopping night bfs once I was happy they weren't hungry)

pinkmagic1 · 13/01/2005 11:09

I was very lucky DS was just over 5 weeks!

singsong · 15/01/2005 11:28

suzywong I was wondering about your theory, my waters were broken at about 11.45pm and ds was born at 01.46am. However he doesn?t seem to wake up at the same times. Someone once told me that they thought that if your baby was active during the night time whilst you were pregnant then they would likely be a poor sleeper and if they were quite still at night they would be a good sleeper. I don?t know if there is any truth to this but ds was always very still during the night and very active during the day when I was pregnant with him. Now although he does wake several times a night he is always very sleepy and seems to only wake for a feed or for his dummy and never to play.

DS1 9mths (after jet lag!) although I wouldn't recommend a hellish 11 hr flight from Vancouver to achieve this - there must be an easier way!)

DS2 still waiting at 10 months (tried the dream feed thing at 11pm but that made him wake up more) now just put him down and wait and see - sometimes its just an hour after you have fallen asleep - that one is a killer - others it might be 4ish - at least he settles quickly.... maybe I should try the flight thing again.....NO WAY!

bellbottoms · 17/01/2005 21:14

11 months and still waiting! but i take him to my bed on first waking (between 10.30 & 3am) , so then I don't have to do any serious getting up.getting properly awake for the rest of the night (he wakes then at about 3 for 5mins, then 6.30 then used to sleep again until 8.30, but that seems to have gone for the last 2 wks, argh!!), but being with me means, whilst it prob encourages waking, it means I don't really lose sleep and get to wake up to the best little person ever (however I don't share my bed with anyone else!).

hotmama · 17/01/2005 21:29

My DD has slept through from a week old - was originally 12 to 5ish which was good enough for me. Now 15 weeks, she sleeps from 9 to 7ish and isn't particularly keen to wake up. I'm thankful every night as this probably won't last when teething etc starts. Downside is that being a generally sleepy/lazy baby she isn't bothered particularly about feeding therefore started to lose weight as my milk supply reduced even when manically expressing so I had to move to formula - will force the next one to feed more and exchange for sleepless nights if needed.

Gem13 · 17/01/2005 21:53

crazymum - was thinking about going to Vancouver on a house swap this year. Not to be recommended then?! They will be 3 and 1.5.

IloveMarmite · 17/01/2005 22:03

dd1 5 weeks
dd2 3months
ds3 10 weeks

singsong · 18/01/2005 08:17

That?s a pretty good record IloveMarmite, what?s your secret????

Are we talking 12 hours straight here?
Well, my DS has NEVER EVER done that ... he is 5 years old now so to all of you ...
He 'slept through' from 16 weeks in that I stopped feeding him in the night then ... but he often woke up in the night needing a cuddle etc. Even as a young baby the very very longest sleep he would do was 11 hours. Always been an early waker.
At 5 he is a shocker ... still wakes at least once (nearer 3 times) a night needing cuddles.
DD on the other hand is a dream. She stopped night time feeds at around 5 months but I would need to replug the dummy once or twice a night until she was 9 months when she could find it herself.
She is really sweet, she goes to bed with one dummy in her mouth and one in each hand, when I go to bed I make sure the three dummies are next to her head where she can find them and we don't hear from her till 6am.
Mind you, she has never done 12 hours either ... she goes from 7pm till 6.30am latest.

singsong · 18/01/2005 09:40

Ghosty I think some people are talking about 12 hours straight
Personally eight hours would be bliss. In fact if ds would allow us to have 6 unbroken hours that would make me

Donbean · 18/01/2005 09:44

Never has, 18 months and i am still up to him 5/6 times on a bad night and twice on a good night and then he is up between 4.30/6am every morning.
Nightmare sleeper, always has been.

lilsmum · 18/01/2005 09:53

6 wk, but when teething started i had a few probs but not many, now back to sleeping 12 hrs (almost 12mth)

lilsmum · 18/01/2005 09:55

forgot to add, from 6 wks she dropped 3am feed, and slept roughly 8pm to 6am (did a sleep feed at 11pm though)

IloveMarmite · 18/01/2005 09:55

Think I just have sleepy children, or at least I did until they hit about 2nd b'day/move into a bed, and then they are all over the shop!

sanchpanch · 18/01/2005 10:01

i am with donbean, my dd is 18 months and wakes about 4/5 times a night everynight, has no good nights at all, it is so tiring, i walk round like a zombie all morning at work, we get home at 1 and she goes to bed for 1 hour, but i have to much to do before picking dd1 up from school. i am thinking of trying lavender on her sheet? any one tried this or donbean have you any other suggestions?

skerriesmum · 18/01/2005 10:38

Not yet and he's 2 in a couple weeks!

handlemecarefully · 18/01/2005 10:50

From circa 6 months for dd.

Ds is currently 8 months and sleeps through until 06.00 around 70% of the time.

Berries · 18/01/2005 20:02

dd1 - 3 months
dd2 - 3 YEARS

morningpaper · 18/01/2005 20:19

It would be great if MN had a poll every week for this sort of question.

kid · 18/01/2005 20:30

DS = 13 months (now 2.9)
DD now 6 years old and still wakes up most nights!

Eva3 · 18/01/2005 22:31

DD1 6 weeks
DD2 15 weeks
DD3 due in 3 weeks time... please let her be similar..

spod · 18/01/2005 22:33

dd 15 months, has slept through (10 hours)only handful of time... this least week, almost every night (although she needs a cuddle some nights) i aint counting any chicken just yet.
