Wake a sleeping nine week old to go out?

What do you do when you’re supposed to go out but you’re nap trapped with a sleeping baby?

The baby is in desperate need of sleep, having only slept 30 mins in the previous five hours. Finally you have got the baby off to sleep and they’ve had 40 mins and counting so far.

If you wake them up to put them in the car seat, the drive won’t be long enough to send them back to sleep. Even if it was, transferring them to the pram at the other end will wake them.

Baby won’t sleep in the pram, so by waking them now, they’re going to be awake at least until you get back home (another 2.5 hours).

What would you do?

If youve got to go you've got to go! That's it really. They'll catch up eventually 😊

Depends where you’re going I guess…school pick up? Clearly no choice. Popping to the shops which can be done another time? Stay in. I’m guessing you’ve got plans or meeting someone, so I guess it’s a case of deciding which is more important and how easily the plans can be changed.

You have to weigh it up but if it’s something non essential, there wasn’t much in the world that would convince me to wake up my sleeping baby.

Where are you going? Is it a need or a want?
If it’s a need, you’ll have to go. If it’s a want, I’d let the baby sleep and do whatever it is another time.

Depends where I have to go, but if there was any chance of me getting where I needed to go on foot or by public transport, I'd slot the baby in the sling and go.

Depends on how important as PPs said. And this isn't helpful now, but on that situation my strategy is usually to set off with them in the buggy or sling, even if it's a long walk or you'll be there early. The baby will have a good snooze and you'll get your steps in.

Ahh life revolves around baby’s sleep! I avoided the car and like other have said, sling or buggy and if necessary get there early. I never got the hang of this kind of thing where car seats were involved, they make it much tricker. I assume you don’t have a car seat that can slot into your buggy.

DS never napped in his cot. I was always having to go out to take DD to nursery or pick her up or go shopping etc. He only ever napped in the car or pram. He survived. If you have to go out, then you go.
